As much as I would love to so we could make some of these offlines, there's not a chance in hell!
Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together? Mary: Well, that's pretty difficult to say. Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances? Mary: Not good. Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred? Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million. Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.

so, it's looking like my friend might actually be able to come. she's a little nervous, though. although she really likes wine, she doesn't know that much about it and is worried that she won't fit in. (some of her nervousness probably also is due to the two of us having spent only a little time together.)
i think that she'd get along great with you all and i'm telling her that. heck, only a jerk or a true wine snob wouldn't fit in with this group. OK, insert joke here.
and i saw from kevin's post earlier that we seem all set on food. so if she can join us, i'll just bring a second bottle as her contribution. (she had offered to make a really tasty-sounding dessert.)
so, if my friend makes it, please do your best to make her feel at ease.
and who knows, maybe she'll join us for another one and make that chocolate mousse.
Wow. Just got back from hiking in the mountains. Surprised no posts...... Actually, not really surprised. After last night, I expect many are still sleeping!
Great job, klymkev! An outstanding evening. Great wines and fun. Wonderful to meet Bob in MD and his bride too.
My daughter glommed the camera, so will post pics later on.

Oh man, 2 am bedtime followed by a 6 am wakeup via my 3-year old is not fun.
Thanks to all who attended. The evening was a blast. Food was great (thanks for the cowboy ribeye's sarbuze) as well as the beer. A very educational format. I knew going in that I wouldn't be able to ID a lot, but WOW, was I way off on EVERY wine. I still can't believe that 2003 Dunn Bob!
My favorites: sarbuze's white 02 Erath Pinot 97 La Chapelle
But my WOTN was the 83' LLC. I nursed that baby all the way until after the Port, and it was pretty special. Thanks to Lentini for twisting my arm on this one!
PH, you were smart to exit a little early, we got a little crazy as the night wore on (90' Lafaurie Peyraguey, 86' Rieussec, 04' Fluer Cardinale, 96' Potensac).
One of the benefits of hosting, you get any leftovers. And while this group did well to finish all the wine, I did manage to find a glass of the 97' Monte Bello remaining. Sipping on it right now, I must say it is tasty.
Thanks again to everyone who attended. Looking forward to next month.

Thanks for hosting klymkev. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated, especially after the post-midnight “round two” openings!
This offline was one of our most laid back in my estimation. Most likely due to the mystery theme, everyone quickly abandoned any real hope of identifying what was in his or her glass (especially when the ’01 Neal made two separate appearances!) Combine that with those who found keeping glasses in order a challenge brought many a laugh from one end of the table to the other.
It is difficult for me to pick a WOTN as many of the profiles seemed so complimentary. When the identity of the first flight was revealed I quickly surrendered any further attempt deciding to simply enjoy the food, fluids and fellowship. I must say the biggest “head scratcher” of the night was the approachability of the ’03 Dunn Howell Mountain. It was nothing like the tannic monster I would have expected.
Sarbuze with his able assistant Greg #2 did a great job with the steaks. (I should have secreted one of the surviving bones to gnaw on during the Sunday drive home.) The entire menu was fantastic and if pressed to choose a favorite, my nod goes to the mussel broth. A hunk of crusty bread soaking up the hedonistic nectar is hard to beat.
Our latest additions, Bob in MD and his lovely bride passed the obligatory hazing rituals with flying colors and are great folks too. They are probably second guessing their affiliation with this kooky group, but don’t let first impressions affect your judgment – please join us again!
Thanks everyone and I look forward to next month.

i'm with GF on the fact that it was a laid-back, very fun event. in terms of wine consumption, though, it was off-the-freaking-hook. klymkev's hospitality was outstanding as always -- but this time he pulled it off flawlessly while also watching his young son solo.
the wines and dishes that everyone contributed were outstanding (TNs to come). i never fail to be amazed at the generosity of this group. (and hopefully we didn't scare off our new members.)
klymev, thanks for hosting. and thanks (i think) for pulling those last four bottles when there was just four of us left to drink them. we really needed more wine at that point.
and brashley, thanks for the ride home. i think metro was no longer running by the time we walked out of casa klym. and "outkicking your coverage" on metro is hard to do on a saturday night.
GF: if you still want one of dem bones, you could go and try to take one from sarbuze's dogs. my money's on the huskys.

First, my wife and I want to thank the group for allowing us to attend, for marvelous job klymev did hosting the event (very tasty mussels) and Sarbuze for the gorgeous steaks. We really enjoyed the evening and meeting all of you – what a great group! We hope that you found us to be worthy enough so that we may continue to participate in future gatherings and meet the others that could not attend last night.
All of the wines were fabulous, though my memory of the later rounds is quite foggy – I’ve learned that one really needs to pace themselves at these events. I’m looking forward to Newsguy’s notes to help my memory. I can’t believe that you opened more wine after we had stumbled out of the house!!! I was feeling a bit fuzzy around the edges on Sunday. While I did manage to crawl out of bed before noon, it was not much before. Just to make matters worse, we hosted some workmates at our home on Monday and did a major cellar raid - my poor brain.
The two ’01 Neals were a real surprise on how different they presented themselves; wondering if it had to do with difference in the cellaring, possibly different barrels or the amount of wine we were drinking, hmmm. The ’03 Dunn Howell Mountain was definitely more approachable then one would think, but that is rep for the ’03. My other vintages will have to sit for a few more years before we get at ‘em (hint for future blinds).
Once again, thanks for having us.

Fantastic time on Saturday- great to see everyone and meet Bob and Mrs. Bob. Thanks Klymkev for once again offering up your beautiful home.
Wines of the night were tough..but I'd go with '83 LLC, the Dunn on an interesting level, and the '97 Hermitage. The last wines Klymkev pulled were also fantastic
I have notes on each wine and will post 'em eventually!
btw- My dogs loved the leftover steak scraps and bones
