Sorry, gang. I've been offline a bit these past days. I'm still open to doing something. Just not coming up with any brilliant ideas for this month. If it's a super small group, I may be able to host something at the Purple Palace.

I'm likely out for the 21st.

I have the boy (my son) by myself that weekend, so unless I can get a babysitter, or he can learn to drive in 9 days, I'm SOL.

If the purple palace doesn't work out, I could always host something small here as well, in a pinch. House will be empty, except for me and the aforementioned toddler.

5/16 is on the family calendar (meaning I will not allow anything to keep me from missing ANOTHER MD event) for deck as well.

OK, for once, I'll take the reigns on this.

How about a Blind Tasting/Dinner? No rules on what type or where your wine is from.

Everyone brings a bottle, plus an empty. Upon arrival you can funnel your wine into your empty and we taste from there. This way we don't have to deal with bags and bottle shapes, etc., etc. and we only know our own wine.

To make it easy, I can just pick up some steaks, leg of lamb, pork, or some meat (open to suggestions) that is quick and easy to prepare. We'll get someone to bring a bubbly and sticky if needed, or we can raid my cellar for one/both.

Add in an app. or two, potatoes/starch and a veggie(s) and we're good to go?

As previously mentioned, it will be just me and my son, so I'm even OK buying all the food and preparing it, and we'll all just pitch in a few bucks, if that will make it easy for all.

And as always, for those who might be travelling, I have an extra bed or 2, plus couches and 1 parking spot, if needed.

Anyone????

Kim and I would love to visit your beautiful home next Saturday- very kind of you to offer to host!

I think keeping it easy- steaks and sides with whatever wine each person wants to drink would be fun- especially blind!

I can get some really nice cowboy ribeyes from my restaurant (or other cuts of meat) for cheap if that sounds good to anyone.

Mmmmm, cowboy ribeyes.

Sarbuze, I nominate you both butcher and ribeye chef.

Looks like I’ll mosey on down to the klymkev ranch while sarbuze rustles up some grub from the chuckwagon.

Let me know what kinda vittles to pack in my saddlebags!

I'm hoping "vittles" means "cheesecake" Smile

For theme...how about "Wines For Steak"- bring something YOU want to drink with a bloody, dry-aged, 2" thick ribeye!

A cheese course to end (instead of dessert) would be great actually- especially with a few sweet wines!

I'll declare:

1 blind white
1 blind red
1 blind sweet

Smile

If you want me to declare, I most certainly will...but where is the fun in that?

Agreed. There goes the planner in me again (previous post deleted).

I say we totally wing it. Bring whatever the hell you feel like. Sarbuze has beef, we don't really need much more, do we?

(I like the cheese course idea, though)

If there is room, my wife and I would love to participate. Would be a great oppotunity to meet some of the group (as well as settle our account with the host).

Bob, Newsguy, PH, you're all in.

Sorry newsguy, GF beat you to the spot and we have rented the other one. Metro? Remember, I'm just 2 blocks from Dupont.

I can also hand off your dish from the last dinner.

Will have a gas backup as well!

Oh, and if anyone doesn't want to lug an empty bottle for your chosen wine to go into, I have a few here, and will likely accumulate a few during the week, so no worries.

Ok, guys - I'm finally back from my trip to South Beach and my cruise. Unfortunately, looks like I missed out on the offline though since all the spots are full. Have a great time all and hope to catch you next time.

I think you mis-interpreted, sibster... Parking spots are full/accounted for. I don't think seats at the table are full.

Get me a final number for this thing by Wednesday so I can order the beef Smile

It looks like 10 will be our number. Suggesting to cap it there due to pour volume and space (klymkev has used this number in the past so I figured it would work).

Me + Kim
Klymkev
PH
GF
Newsguy (+1?)
Bob (+1)
Sibster (?)

I think everyone but Kim will be having beef. I can get some nice cuts of fish (or anything else) if there is interest.

Just a suggestion, as someone who has the same grill as klymkev. Grilling 10 porterhouses on that thing is gonna be an adventure. There just isn't the surface area to accomodate more than 4 big mohican steaks at a time with enough room for them to char and without overloading the grill temperature wise. Perhaps smaller steaks, or a roast that can be carved would make more sense for 10 diners?
