I usually attend the Union des Grand Cru de Bordeaux "Weekend des Grands Amateurs" tasting in May. Great event, 100+ Chateaux, dry Red & White and Sauternes plus the option to dine in one of the Chateau the Saturday evening. Never learnt so much and assessed so much Bordeaux in my life. Last year featured 2005s, this year 2006s. Exhibitors go up to 2nd Growth.

Funny you should say that. Union des Grand Cru is exactly what I am doing on Monday. I was with some local friends for dinner. If you return to Bordeaux, I recommend Gravellier Restaurant. Many other people who were attending the Vinexpo were eating there as well.
They have ultra formal ways of doing things at Vinexpo. It's not like grab a glass and walk around and taste a little of this a little of that. Instead, they have their marketing and sales people sit with you and pour.
Thanks for your input.
