I have established contact with Jack Elsby, who is the proprietor of the Brass Elephant, located at 924 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.
Jack and I were in college together. We both went to law school We both became lawyers. He immediately went into the restaurant business, and I just eat.

So, for now, save 2/18 (saturday). I'd like very much to get 7-8 people if possible.

I'm in for one, for now.

Any thoughts on a theme?

Count me in for one as well. As for the theme, I'm just along for a delicious ride!

I noticed foie gras on their menu; I am already in heaven... (hint, hint) Big Grin

Sorry---Count me out. I'll be going away with my wife that weekend, as it turns out.
I haven't heard from Brass Elephant's owner in response to my call. So, I'll be happy to follow up with him if you wish to press on without me.
Either way.

I'd vote for a later date as well. Perhaps the following weekend, or sometime after that?

I'm clear for either Saturday or Sunday (25th & 26th.) Anyone else? Even if it's something informal.

Looks like a mini-offline is in the works for Sunday the 26th. Thanks cometspider! I'm am definitely into just a simple steak with a great bottle of Cab. I'm thinking a 1999 Sterling Cab Reserve? Great steak wine....

Guys,

I hope that our February off-line is more of a "steak" night. We'll each bring a big red and order our food off the menu. I'm thinking about bringing a 1999 Abreu Madrona Ranch and ordering the NY strip.

Bring your breath mints, the bread comes with a roasted garlic head that is sliced open so you can dig out the individual cloves- yummy.

Eek I do think that qualifies as big.

I also like the idea of keeping it simple and ordering off the menu. The strip sounds good, but the rack of lamb has a ring to it as well.

Are we thinking one bottle per attendee, or one per couple?

So far, as far as big boys are concerned I'm thinking:

1999 Verite La Muse
1989 Grand Puy Lacoste (this may still qualify as infanticide)
1999 Cakebread Benchland Select

Thoughts?

Dig deep, boys. cometspider has set the bar pretty high!!

Guys,

I'd like to place the reservation this week. I think we are a definite seven with a couple maybes??:

Festiva (1)
Gentleman Farmer (1)
Irwin (2)
Purple Haze (1)
Cometspider (2)

If there are any additions please try to let me know in the next couple of days. I'll bring a bottle for Ms. CS to be opened at our discretion.

Wow! I'm out of town for a week and I come back and see we'll be drinking Abreu! Thanks, Cometspider!

How do any of these sound?

1980 Niebaum Coppola Rubicon
1997 Merryvale Profile
1994 Peter Michael Les Pavots
1987 Spring Mountain Cab

Thanks for putting #5 together!

I'm looking like a solo for this one. If you need to book it, cometspider, put me down for one. If I can add a date at last minute, let me know as my date is still juggling her schedule.

I'm going to bring the La Muse. We'll see who was right, Laube (85) or Parker (96). My money is on RP for this one...... Wink

Festiva - Don't think you could go wrong with any of your selections. One vote for the Profile, just because I've never had one!
