What: a Los Angeles offline that actually gets beyond the "we should do this" stage
When: Saturday, August 9, 6:00 p.m.
Where: Kincaids -- near Redondo Beach pier
Who: You!

O.K. L.A. ... let's do this! Pinot Noirs & Roses next Saturday. It's been waaay too long since we've had an offline, so here we go.

Our good friend, stomata, has arranged for zero corkage for this event, so don't be shy!

Who's in?

If there are no more hits for this off-line, we should cancel. I have to get the number of people attending to Kincaids Mgm't so that they can make room for us. They will need a few days notice, as this Saturday will be busy. Post now or forever hold your peace!

This event will be going down, regardless of how many sign-up ... but it would be nice to have a nice showing ... the more the merrier Smile

So far, we have 7 confirmed attendees.

danny,

you there = awesome
you there with company = super awesome

We're hoping to get a number to the restaurant by tomorrow evening, so do what you can this evening or tomorrow morning to convince your company to join us. I'm looking forward to this! ... if even half of the "maybes" pull through we'll be at about a dozen in attendance, as I've been able to drum up some additional interest "elsewhere."

Alas, after high hopes we cannot attend.

However, for LA being the most educated and having the most access to wine, I am still confused why we can almost never get these offlines together. We should try to do this on a more frequent basis, perhaps aiming to do one in October?

What do you guys think?

I'm all for it...maybe scheduling them on a recurring day each month would be a good move...

Once a month may be too much. But if we were to say the 3rd Saturday of every other month or every third month, that would work.

Zin,

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it. Frown

I would be all for having a pre-set recurring OL "schedule," if you will.

It seems L.A.'s problem is two-fold:
(1)everyone is flaky as schist, and cannot seem to commit to a date, and
2) nobody is willing to take charge of the organization of the event.

I think a pre-set OL schedule would be perfect, as it would at least eliminate problem (1), which I think would also help mitigate the severity of problem (2).

So, in that vein, I like your call: 3rd Saturday of every other month. If we find attendance dwindling then we can switch to every 3rd or 4th month...but c'mon, that really shouldn't happen. I know not everyone will be able to make every event, but there should be enough interest to fill-up an OL every 60 days!

So, next L.A. offline:
Saturday, October 18, 6:00 p.m.
Theme and location TBA.
I'll start a thread after our event this Saturday. With 2 months notice I have to believe we can get together a good group of people.

I find the difference, in this regard, totally amazing (and thus far inexplicable).

Yeah, I might not be able to make it either, as that is my birthday weekend and we might be in Vegas. Maybe we could do second Saturday of each month and move it up a week...or not, afterall this "can't make it" business is exactly what problem (1) is all about. We need to just pick a dam date and stick to it. Otherwise we spend waste all our time trying to figure out a date that works for everybody, which is a difficult impossible task, and then the OL ends up not happening at all.
