I was going to just bump up and continue the last try at this offline, entitled "Blind Tasting of 82 and 89 First Growths Mixed with Humbling Surprises", but decided to start fresh with the hope that we can get this together.

After discussing with Thomas23162, we both think that there is sufficient interest to again attempt to pull off this tasting, which, I think, would be something to remember. Therefore, Thomas and I are re-opening this event and looking to set something up for this summer. I would propose June, preferably something in the last two weeks, which is after schools let out and should make things easier for everyone.

I believe that the plan will be to again visit La Casalinga (or some other acceptable restaurant in the Windsor area) and to try the 10 first growths from these two years. I know that last time we had interest(and even stated bottles) from Thomas, DoktaP, Napacat, aav28, and myself, which got us halfway (or a little more) to the goal of the ten bottles.

So, lets get this started, dust of our calendars and start the summer with a very nice offline with some nice wines.

Thanks, Dale and Thomas

I'm tentative depending on date. I will contribute either 89 Latour or 89 Margaux.

I am not available on the 28th of June, but open on the 21st if that's better for most people. Count me in unless there's some kind of catastrophe. I'll post the wine as we get closer to the date.

Hi Windsor/Michigan folks,

Can I be added as a "Maybe" - I grew up in Michigan (undergrad at WSU) and could perhaps make it up and stay with my parents for a weekend.

Once the weekend and venue is figured out, I'll know for sure.

Thanks!

Oh, and I should verify that I will bring an 89 Mouton for the event.

Sarbuze, welcome to the group.

We are now looking at Saturday, August 16,2008, for now, and the location will be TBD, but will be in the greater Windsor/Detroit Metropolitan area.

By my math, we are more than 80% of the way there:

1. Dale - 1989 Mouton
2. aav28 - 1989 Latour or 1989 Margaux
3. DoktaP - wine tbd
4. Thomas +1 - wine tbd
5. Napacat - 1982 Mouton or 1982 Cheval Blanc
6. Sarbuze - maybe - wine tbd
7. KSCO2 - wine tbd
8. Mghomula - maybe - 1989 Haut Brion

so we are now at 8-9 people and 8+ bottles.
Dale

Barb and I are definitely in.

Complications exist with LaCasalinga--Angela has opened a new place--Paesanos--about three miles away in Tecumseh.

I will see what is missing from the other offerings and try to supplement.

Bman could be weaned off Australian forever with the chance to taste really good wine.

I will remain flexible as to the date--anything that is mutually agreeable I will make work.

I also propose contributing one or two other bottles that if tasted blindly may well provide interesting insights into quality.

Would strongly suggest we limit to first 12-15 as the 25 ounces in these kinds of wines can be difficult to distribute if the number reaches 20.

bump as we are now into April. It looks we are 7-8 bottles towards our 10 so we are almost there, and just want to get this back into rotation so that we can fill in and get the actual event green-lighted, which will let us work on location and details.

Confirming that I'm in for this soiree.
Now that we're well into May, we'd better start planning framing this thing in. Wink

Thanks, KSCO2. Other than the initial input, things have been awfully quiet.

I did receive an email from Thomas, and unfortunately, I believe that he is now going to be out of the country for this date. Lets see if we can get some actual confirmations from other than you and I and see if we can actually pull this offline off. Otherwise, maybe we should just got to Texas, Chicago or Maryland. After your last trips through there, maybe they would let me tag along and we can find a way to pull this thing together.

No reason the date can't be adjusted for Thomas. Let's see what other times are available. DoktaP mentioned that June 28 wasn't good. Feedback?

Napacat?
aav28 ?
Sarbuze?

Are we going to do this? Are we available other dates than 6/28? Cool

Looks like June & July might be a slight problem for me as well as my basement renovation will start in early June for a period of 8 weeks. If everybody wants to stick around with June 28th, I am committed still.

I am dealing with a full kitchen/backyard renovation, so not sure how far along I'll be by then.

Please keep me on the "maybe" list for now and don't include me on any serious planning. I'd still like to try and make it, thought!

Just to clarify, we had been looking at June 21, not June 28, as DoktaP said that the 28th didn't work for him (although KSC02) Napa and I had discussed getting together independantly of this on Saturday the 28th at my house), so keeep that in mind for a barbecue. I am pretty open last two weeks of June and most of July, as my wife and sons will be up on Mackinac, so lets see what we can do and try to make this work. Even if we can't get all 10 first growths, I would think that we can still make this a memorable evening.

AAV28 - lets keep aiming for the date and see what we come up with.

Sarbuze - you are still on the list, and if any renovations that I have done are like yours, you will most likely need this more than any of us just to try and recoup your sanity.

New to the MI area and I stumbled on this post. I would be interested in participating depending on the final dates and location. Getting my hands on my first growths is a challenge these days as most are still in storage in Ohio but I have an 89 Chateau Haut-Brion here with me. That could be my contribution if I am able to attend.

Mghomula - welcome. We are still working on this one, and not sure if this date is going to work, but will definately keep you in mind and put you on the list.

What do you say guys/gals? We are looking at 8 people and 8 bottles, needing to fill in only 2 bottles and people to get us to our ten. We have exactly one month to get this done and I would like to start working on the venue if we really think that this is a good date.

Please come out of the woodwork and let me know as firm a response as possible.

As much as I'd love to participate, I'd enjoy the opportunity to share these wines with the organizer of the original C.A.G.E. I'd like to know if Thomas is available another time. I still feel compelled to make a toast to Slapshot- a man with the vision of these international offlines and a keen sense of humour and joie de vivre.

welcome to the boards, Mghomula. You'd be welcome to join us in this sure-to-be-memorable evening.

That said, I agree with DoktaP. It would only be right to allow some adjustment to ensure Thomas's inclusion in this. This WILL happen. Let's just adjust the date a little.

I agree with all. For now, Saturday August 16 works for me (actually better than the 21st did). Lets pencil that date in and then try and figure out a location over the early part of the summer.

Oh, and KSCO2, since you are now actively in the planning stages for this offline, you have been changed on the list above from tentative to in like flynn!
