Walter is the maitre d' at Cucina Toscana - a distinguished old gentleman who is obsessive about service. He used to refer affectionately to my then-girlfriend and me as his niece and nephew. I miss him dearly. Speaking of which, I miss you guys too... in a very Bjork-esque, "but I haven't met you yet" kind of way. Wink

Have a great evening, and I look forward to reading the report.

I had a great night with everyone. Good to see Jc and mlv again. Also we really enjoyed talking to your friends. Also it was great meeting with all the SLC folks. We will have to get together again at Tiburon.

Walter was full of energy. He is the owner, right? I think I have seen him in the Local Best of Salt Lake magazine as the owner. I really enjoyed his spirit. He is sort of a cross between Einstein, a maitre'd, and a cool grandpa.

Mrs. Gigabit and I had a great time as well. The food and wine were fantastic. It was nice meeting you and your girlfriend; mlv, JC, and friends; ktf and his wife.

We will plan a trip to Tiburon in the summer. I will make the arrangements this time. stickman, we will let you know the date(s).

I also look forward to trying some of ktf's home brew. Cool

Great description of Walter! Smile He may, indeed, be the owner, but whether he is or not, he clearly runs the show. And fwiw, he is always full of energy!

Thanks for keeping me in mind. Fwiw, my best chances of making it will be in mid- to late-June. July is right out. Then August is possible. 'Hope to be there next time.

I was thinking June as well. We are too busy in May and August is too hot. I will keep you informed. Here is a link to their website:

Very nice to meet up with the Utah crew. RR - always good to see you and your girlfriend.

Very good night of food and wine. Standouts for me were the Argiano Brunello, the Solengo, the Toro (definitely in my running for WOTN), the Barolo and the Vin Santo. We had a good night where our wines showed well (a pleasant change from the last Florida off-line where our contribution was corked). Really enjoyable all around. Hope to see everyone the next time we visit or when anyone comes to South Florida.

We followed that night, with dinner at Mariposa Sunday night, with an 1989 Domain du Viking Vouvray, 2005 AP Vin Rosellas, 2003 Neal Rutherford Dust and 2004 Core Coreferment. Not a bad 2 days food and wine-wise.

How was the Neal and the Viking Vouvray? Those two sound interesting.

Vouvray was awesome - probably the consensus wine of the night - we have had numerous bottles of this wine and it did not disappoint.

The Neal was tannic and closed but after an hour in the decanter started to show its stuff. Very nice but not opening our other bottle for a couple more years.
