Great news BHVineyard. No theme per se, so far at least. I thing perhaps the goal would be to match the menu above with nice selections. The first course is screaming for a Pinot Noir, however..... Big Grin Look forward to seeing you again and meeting the originator of the term "Black Hole Vineyard!" Any success on the DC thing?

great news indeed that BHVineyard & Ms. BHV will be there. Between Oregon, Minnesota and Maryland you are doing a good job on the frequent flyer thing.

Watch for more details tomorrow on the offline.

I'm thinking a '00 Chateau de Chamirey Chardonnay (Mercurey) might do well with the bass...

PH,

I talked with Andy this a.m. He remembered your conversation, and was very cordial. I proposed that we meet on the 19th, but he said that is the worst week of the year. So, we agreed to reconnect after the New Year.

It seems like a very good opportunity.

Thanks,
BHV

1) The cost of the dinner will be $77, not $70 as previously noted. No corkage fee. (Tax and tip extra, of course).
2) Mark, of the Rooster Cafe, inquired whether we are bringing our own stemware. His stemware is adequate, but not superior. (His stemware is ok with me, but if we are going to decant something, we ought to bring our own decanters).
Comments on the stemware?
3)Did we decide 6PM?

4)Have we heard anyting from Comet Spider? I sent a personal invitation to TJ.
5) Would a 2001 Nuits St. Georges, Saint Clos de Marc Premier Cru pair with something here? (It's 100% Pinot Noir)

A great idea for a WS article.
James Suckling suprises us all and attends the Md. offline #3. He brings Grand Cru wines from premier vintages.
BHVineyards' Le Cadeau is featured as the Wine of the Night, beating out the all the Burgundies.
Marvin S. picks up the tab.

I just got back online after a couple of weeks and see you guys have done it again! Looks like we're set for another stellar dinner with some great wines and even better company.

I'll dig around and see what I can come up with as far as wine goes.

I'm getting hungry already!

I think I took some pics, Gf. I also had a meltdown in the software that I use to process digital pics shortly thereafter. I need to look into that when I get home.

Keep an eye out. I think we'll be doing this fairly regularly. See you next year!

That's a helluva deal, Gf. No kidding!! I'm too much of a klutz for Sommeliers. Had 2, and killed them both! Red Face

On to wine selections. Are we doing one bottle per attendee? So far we have:

irwin: 2001 Nuits St. Georges, Saint Clos de Marc Premier Cru (perhaps with either the Salmon or Venison?)

Gentleman farmer: 2000 Chateau de Chamirey Chardonnay Mercurey (suggested with the Sea Bass.)

PurpleHaze: How about I bring some 1999 Philippe Delesvaux Coteaux du Layon Sélection de Grains Nobles for dessert?

We need help with the Foie Gras, the Cheese and either the Salmon or Venison depending on which way we go with irwin's Burgundy. Also could use a great bottle (or 2 or 3Razz)of bubbly to get us started.

Wherefore are thou cometspider? I think we have room for 2 more at this event and we should call it a night. 10 seems like a good number. We are currently at 8 and holding. First to post gets in! Big Grin

This should be a great night!

I think the Nuits St. George would go with the venison, particularly because of the gooseberries.

So we need something with the salmon. The dessert wine, PH, sounds great.

I think I shall post on the dining section and get some input. Maybe Grunhauser or Board-O can suggest a good match. (and, maybe not...those are the two possibilities).

Looking forward to this one.

Looks like this one is coming together nicely and I better get to work selecting a wine or two. What should I bring? I'm happy to dig up a Champagne to start or a red Burg to carry us through one of the salmon or venison courses.

festiva---bring a champagne. My speculation is that BYVineyards will bring a pinot noir.

Bummer our timing is off. We'd love to have you join us. I can't imagine why you'd want to move from warm, sunny Florida to the burbs of Maryland, but we'll welcome you just the same! I hope you can join us next time.

As for the Champagne, I'll bring along a bottle of 1985 Charles Heidseick "Champagne Charlie". I'll also sneak out a backup red burg just in case.

Purple, you're no slouch yourself!

Hey, got a question for you! You know your Brunellos. Have you ever tried the Le Gode Brunello Riserva? Wine Library is discounting it pretty deep, at $79/bottle for the 1999. Is this a good deal?

Good choice, Festiva.
Looking forward to it.

I have had Charles Heidsieck (NV) once in business class on Air France. Never had the '85.

Festiva,

I don't have any experience with this particular Brunello. If I understand correctly, they make Brunello in a traditional style, and this is a "riserva" bottling. At that price point, I'd spend my money on one of the more accessable 1995 Brunellos out there, as a 1999 Riserva is proabaly a 2010 or later window. I'm not sure if they are still in stock, but Bassins is showing these 1995's in their sale catalog:

1995 Costanti @ $59
1995 Caparzo La Casa @ $70
1995 Fuligni Riserva @ $86
1995 Casanova di Neri Tenuta @ $50<
