WOTN's? I'd go with either the Lewelling or Neal 2001s, but there was a lot of blurring as the evening went on, Wink .

Is anyone going to start a tasting note thread?

yhn you had notes on everything?

My favorites where the 01 Neal, 04 Lewelling Wight and 02 Match.

It was the first time I prefered the 01 Neal to the 99. The flashy fruit of the 99 does not seem to have held up as well as I would have hoped.

The 00 Lewelling seemed to have a bit of Brett to me. Not at unpleasant levels but I noticed it. The 03 was the only real disappointment in the group for me. It was showing heat and unbalance making the fruit volitile.

Pretty funny! We posted at the same time with the same favorite wines!

FYI - I created a Tasting Event on Cellartacker for the wines that I tasted. It looks like I missed about 3.

Yeah the 00 has always had a hint of brett. As you say, it's at a level that's low enough to be considered interesting without being annoying; I'm not a fan of brett much above that level.

I was surprised that the 03 showed that funkiness. I've had a couple of bottles in the past year and don't recall noticing that.
Could be bottle variation. The other 03 got recorked; when I open it we'll see whether it's funky too.

I enjoyed both the Neal and Lewelling '04. Of course the '99 Neal was also stellar. The Match was too hazy for me to recollect.

Agreed on the Lewelling '00. If that's what Brett tastes like, I'm no fan of it. Funky band aidy stuff.

I finished up some of the '05 Neal the next day, and it will be a wait and see I think, I found it a bit hot. I have another bottle of it.

Well, I'm the outlier, not being a fan of that style of wine. With a few exceptions, they were seriously low on acid, which was the biggest flaw.

Of the Lewellings, my favorite was the '00, which could've been great. I didn't get a taste of the '03. The '01 was my least favorite of the night. I found it simple, sweet and a bit sickly.

The Neals were pretty ho-hum across the board. The '05 showed the most interest by a hair.

The '06 Match was my favorite themed wine. Should improve for the next 7 years.

None of the themed wines were bad, but I did like every single other wine better.

WOTN was the Doisy Vedrines, followed closely by the '07 Syrah, which was intense, complex, well structured and expressive.

The '05 Uvas was also great, and I think the best bottle I've had of it. It was on par with the Lafaurie and Mondavi stickies.
