I haven't been to an offline in quite a while, so I'm eagerly looking forward to this one. The bad news, however, is that it looks like I'll be flying solo (to be confirmed after the holidays).

Ok everyone, after much deliberation, looking at venues, menus, taking in to consideration the geographically dispersed group and preferences of the TWC, we'll be having our 3-year anniversary dinner at Chez Splat in Markham.

-------------

Details:

Date: Sat. Jan. 20th, 2007
Time: 7:00pm
Venue: Chez Splat, 4441 Hwy. 7, Markham (just west of Main St.)

-------------

Menu

Appetizer

Pan seared Quebec foie gras with wild berry compote

or

Nova Scotia crab cakes

-------------

Soup

Saffron seafood bisque with leeks and PEI mussels

or

Roasted red pepper bisque with parmigiano wafer

-------------

Second course

Warm duck and grilled fennel salad

or

Grilled tiger shrimp with pine nuts, blood orange, and frisee

-------------

Entree

Seared loin of venison, wild better jus and potato rosti

or

Pistachio and dijon crusted rack of lamb

-------------

Dessert

Pistachio praline creme brulee

or

Champagne zabaglione

My understanding is that there will also be a four-piece jazz band in the restaurant that night.

Everything - tax, tip, and corkage will be $80 per person.

-------------

Roll call:

Confirmed:

futronic (1)
Slan (2)
StarV100 (2)
aav28 (1)
carriedca (2)
wineguyinTO (2)
DoktaP (2)
basecadet (2)
Mezzo Litro (2)
Asterixis (2)
maverickdrinker (4)
Baird (2)

Tentative:

wineguyinTO (+2)

This is the list I have so far. If there are any changes, please post/email me ASAP, as I need to start with table assignments. Depending on the number of people, there will be tables of 6 or 8 people.

Each table will be responsible for co-ordinating their own wines for the evening.

If I could get everyone's final numbers and confirmation by January 7th, I will email the people at each table and ensure that they can be in contact with one another to co-ordinate wines.

We like to start the evening with a touch of Champagne, so we have two options:

1. Each table brings a bottle of Champagne
2. I'll bring a few bottles of Champers and each person can chip in $5-10 to cover the cost.

Please state your preference when you've confirmed.

It's going to be another great evening, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 20th!

Fut,

Looks fabulous.

I'm sure chef Todd will accommodate those who
prefer other main courses, especially if they make their preferences known in advance.
Personally, I'm good to pay a little extra and you can supply some nice bubbles.

I'm confirming for 4 (DP's/asterixis).

Any photos available for Purple Teeth judging anyone?

If there is still room, Mrs. Baird and I would be interested in attending.

I will confirm for 4 people so far.

wondering if this is a magnum party again or not?

Seeing that we are having tables of 8, do we bring 2 different wines or 1 magnum?

Looking forward to it

Mav,

This is NOT a magnum party (unless you just decide to bring one). One bottle per person. This bottle will be shared at the table you're at. If you desire, you can choose to pass leftover wine to another table.

Fut,

It looks like I'll be flying solo, so please put me down for one rather than two.

Thanks.

If there is room, please put me down for 2 persons.

I'm happy to go either way on the champagne. I can bring a bottle from the cellar, or will be happy to chip in.

Same here. Both works - I'm happy to chip in but alternatively, I have lots of Champagne and I could bring a bottle.

Not me. I'll need to chip in. All my wine is currently in storage until we move into our new house next month. In fact, my plan was to simply go to the LCBO and buy something to bring, however if somebody wants to bring something else from their cellar on my behalf, then I will gladly re-imburse.

I hate to do this with so little time left, but I have to withdraw.
My boss had a heartattack over the holidays and won't be back for at least 2 months.
Our executive director met with us and I've been tasked with taking over a large component of the work. My colleague also got alot of the work.
I basically have been given a green light for any overtime needed to get my job & extra duties completed.

No more weekends for me.

Consolation is that I'll be paid more, and I go on paternity leave at beginning of february.

Sorry guys. I promise to make it down to T.O. while I'm on paternity leave (its 4 months, the joy of government).

carried,

Really sorry that you're unable to make it. Was looking forward to seeing you and mrs. carriedca again. Hopefully you'll be able to make it down to Toronto sometime soon.

To everyone else, I've sent emails around with table assignments. As per what I mentioned in that message, talk amongst yourselves and organize your wine for the evening. I will not bringing Champagne for each table, as there were minimal responses on the thread.

Look forward to seeing everyone on the 20th!

Good job Fut's.

Question; Do we need to bring stemware? I seem to remember Splats having extra on hand. As for decanters thats a no brainer.

Today's weather reminds me of the first annual TWC anniversary dinner a couple of years ago, when we had the mother of all snowstorms on the night of the event.

That got me thinking: how is everyone getting there? I'd be happy to split a cab from mid-town Toronto with anyone. Any other transportation suggestions?

Hope you guys have fun. My weekends suck big time. I'm working 7 days a week until Jan. 26th.

Consolation is I'm making extra money. Gotta stock up for 06 futures. My son's birth year.

I spoke to Todd tonight and he's getting all excited about the upcoming anniversary offline.
He's waiting for confirmation of the Jazz band.

Looks like things are set to go. Like all the award shows of notoriety going on (Golden Globes,Academy Awards), the Purple Tooth Award is off at the engravers. Only our accounting firm knows the results.

Carried- too bad you're unable to attend. You'll be missed by the posse. Save your money!

Peter-make a new plan, Slan (for transportation)

To the rest of the TWC: I look forward to seeing everyone in fine form on Saturday.

If anyone has others they'd like to invite, there's still some room.

Al,

To answer your question, no need to bring stems. Splat will have enough for us on Saturday.
