Hi everyone,

With the end of the year rapidly closing in, it's time to start organizing the TWC 3-year anniversary dinner.

This year, we'll be having the event on Saturday, January 20th, 2007. Haven't firmed up the venue yet, but we may be heading northwest of the city. I'd like to keep it at the same price-point as last year, which was $85 per person, inclusive of tax, tip, and corkage.

It's difficult to please everyone but if anyone has a preference to downtown-versus-suburb venue location, please speak up immediately.

Depending on the numbers, we may have to scrap the magnum party setup we've done the past couple years and having each table focus on their wines for the evening. If this happens, we could do Champagne for the group and then whites, reds, sweet wines would be organized for each table of 8. Bottle-swapping between tables can then be done, if desired.

I understand that some people may object to this (un-Canadian?) method, but I've been to several dinners where this has been extremely successful and enjoyable. Logistically, it's a bit of a nightmare to get a single wine around to 4+ tables, and realistically, bringing a magnum (or double magnum if the numbers grow) isn't always feasible. Having a per-table focus would allow for a much more leisurely pace to dinner as well as better pours. Everyone won't get to taste every wine, but there should be more than enough quality to go around.

The roll call starts now.

As always, I have a preference for a downtown location, but I expect that I will be in for up to four spots regardless.

Put down me for two.

I like the idea of having a table share its bottles for a number of reasons:
- the table determines the pace of the tasting
- provided that the seating arrangement and menu is known in advance, it'll be easier to pair the wines with food
- there's a likelihood of us haing all reds for the right.

Only question... what do you mean by northwest? Are we talking Woodbridge, Brampton or??

Duojet,

The tables will be arranged in advance, so your group will be able to put together your wine list as well.

By northwest, we're looking at Woodbridge for now.

Thanks for getting this started. I'm in for 2 for sure, maybe 4. Prefer downtown.

I also like the table wine format. Passing decanters from table to table is awkward and we don't always know what's going around anyway.

Count the Mrs. and I in for 2. I'll check with Asterixis and see if he's in with his significant other.
I'm good for the Woodbridge location, since a little birdie told me we're in for something
special. Wink

After last year's dinner, I would have thought more people would have signed up by now! What's going on? Doesn't anyone want to go to offlines anymore?

Duo, I was thinking the very same thing.

Count me in for two, please. I'm pretty sure that some of my past guests will also be more than happy to attend, so until further notice, put me down for a further 2 as tentative. A past guest of mine has since enrolled on these boards. I am pretty certain that he too, will attend, but I will fire off an email to him asking for him to check the thread and report back himself.

I need people to step up and commit sooner rather than later so we can sort out venue, menu, etc, etc.

Some places won't even bother talking shop without a realistic ballpark number. Can't say "around 30" and then end up with 20.

Would anybody object to Aqua again? They were very accommodating, great room, excellent food, and fair pricing. Of course if the Woodbridge thing is superior, it's a no brainer for us 905ers.

Mav..all you need to know about the Sopranos is that there are 3 of them....Pavarotti, Domingo and the other guy.

Welcome to the neighbourhood.
