Yes, we can squeeze. We'll leave the drawbridge down for her.
Just do me a favor. The dining room chairs are all antiques, dating from 1760 through about 1825. You can sit on them, but don't rock back on them.
Festiva should sit farthest from the fire, for obvious historical reasons.
Cheryl is leaning to making a salmon/cream cheese spread thing she makes with a secret ingredient.

a question:
In what order does one drink champagnes?
Obviously, when doing a wine tasting, one might start with lighter and whiter, and move to heavier reds, ending up with some 15% bomb, but what do you do with a plethora of Champagnes?

I think the same principle would apply, irwin. Aged Champagnes exhibiting more sherrylike or mildly oxidative (is that a word? Confused) characteristics would probably best be saved for after lighter styled bubblies. That being said, there is probably no way to screw this tasting up!!

I would so love to visit Irwin's castle, sit by the roaring fire, inspect the antiques- including the suit of armor Eek , and sip champagne with a great bunch of folks. If the 1985 P-H Charlie is served I may be inconsolable...for at least 15 minutes or so (Dr. Evil of Austin Powers).

Instead I'll be sharing an early Christmas meal with my in-laws who will be traveling back to Tennessee the next morning to spend "real" Christmas at home.

I hope the evening is a smashing success, figuratively speaking of course!

CS: Bummer we won't get the opportunity to hang out with you and yours. Don't worry, I'll bring another Heidsieck to future OL when you can post. The only catch is you'll have to bring one of those '82 Montrose's you've got squirriled away!

Unfortunately I am going to have to bail out of the offline.

We host a very large X-Mas eve party (60+ people) and the 23rd is going to be a VERY long prep day/evening.

I thought I/we could just do it all the day of, but apparently that went over about as easy as a lead balloon!

I guess there's a reason I just pour the drinks and take coats at the party.

I hope to be invited to the January event.

Sounds like an enabler for our first MD cellar diminishment party!

Sorry to hear, Klymkev... If you and I were married instead of married to our wives... that kind of event planning might fly a little better. But that's probably why we're not married. Well, one of many reasons, I guess.

I had the come-to-Jesus talk with my better half, and I'm going to have to bow out as well. Just a little too far away and a little too close to the holidays. When the kids are older, we'll be a little free-er. Bummer, as my wife was particularly interested in the champagne theme. (She's a lush!)

Irwin- Thanks for opening up Chez Irwin for the event... Sorry we will miss. You guys have fun, and happy holidays to all.

The absence of Lentini, Klymkev, the C-Spiders, J.A.Skosh and jahnke are noted. One less log for the fire.

I've tried to work this from every angle, but there's just no way we can swing it that close to the holiday. Frown

You guys are more than welcome to join us in Jersey for the annual "Thompson Street Blowout" that my neighbor Dave hosts. There will be close to 200 bottles, maybe 20 of which are worth a damn that about 5 of us will be pouring from, and probably close to 70 people again who bring the other 180 bottles of nothing worth remembering.... This party gets nuts every year, but it's such a great time. January 19th for anyone interested.

Gentleman Farmer has requested the opportunity to bring a couple of friends who, so far, have no clever and droll internet names.
So, we are:
PH (1)
Gentleman farmer (2)
GF's friends (2)
Jace (2)
Festiva (2)
Irwin (2)

Hola,

Just confirming (from Buenos Aires) that we (Jace y Liz) will be there. Any requests from Amerika de Sud? Sorry 'bout the handle, lost my particulars in the fog from the constant tastings. Is there a theme yet?

The Marylanders really do get around! Hope you have a blast.

Are there any Argentinean bubblies worth drinking? If so, you know what to do on the 23rd!

Actually, when we went a Brasil for a wedding, it was in the heart of their champagne country - in a Italianesque town called Garibaldi, in the Rio Grande du Sud (sourthern-most state). Five or six 'houses' there, including Chandon Frown I will see what Mendoza can do.

Uruguay excels (sort of) in tannat; the ones with some age were not bad.

Adios los amigo/as
