Are folks up for trying a few flights blind?

Let's say, one flight PN and one flight Bordeaux grapes? An inadvertent duplicate wouldn't be that bad. It might not even be called out as being the same wine.

Are we to bring one of each?

One or the other, or one of each if you are a couple, or two of one, or whatever strikes your fancy.

I'm sure there will be enough wine, and I've got plenty available to fill in should TCA spoil a bottle or two. I'll pull out a dessert wine to top us off.

What will be appreciated from my point of view is if some of the attendees can bring a bit of complimentary, easily served food.

I will definitely bring food and can help coordinate where-ever else is needed.

As for wine, I haven't quite decided yet...

Right now it's between:
2001 Owen Roe DuBrul Vineyard

2002 Terra Blanca Merlot Reserve Terra Blanca Estate

2006 Mark Ryan Dead Horse Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

2005 Seven Hills Vintage Red Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

I'd love to show off the Mark Ryan to mareff, but I'm afraid it might need another year or two in the bottle still. Any thoughts/preferences from the peeps?

I'm a fan of Seven Hills, but I'll let mareff speak to his preference.

As I see it, bringing what you want to show is the essence of the event. We can work the organization around that.

Gents,
I love the blind tasting technique. I know nothing of these wines, so I say pop whatever you think might be interesting.

Pape, you still planning on hosting? Put me down for (again) a possible plus one. If it works out that way I'll be sure to bring extra wine to cover.

What food are you thinking we will need?

Yes I still plan on hosting.

Here is the latest roster. Please update, and everyone give an indication of the general type of wine they will bring.

BRR
flop +1
jaimerae +1
mareff
mattach late arriving
mjraica +1 possibly
mneeley
MsBacchus
myself +1

You can contact me papeduneuf@ the gmail account for the address and directions. It is not far from downtown.

My thoughts are still to have a flight of Pinots, and another of Bordeaux varietals. No one has disagreed with doing them blind, so lets go with that.

We can start out with a white or two, and appetizers, while everyone arrives and assembles.
I'd like to start as early as is practical so that we can take it slow.

I anyone wants enough glasses to hold a half dozen or more wines at once, bring extra stemware.

Food, I hope, will add up to a decent meal with everyone's contributions combined. That does not mean I expect everyone to bring food. Some of you will probably be coming directly from work, and mareff is coming all the way from NY. I'll grill up a flank steak sometime during the proceedings to back the Cab based wines.

Something Pinot friendly, involving mushrooms for instance, is most welcome.

Bread, cheese, pâté, and cut up vegetables are easy nibbles. Anything seafood based to have with the whites as we are standing around would be great.

I've still got one more bottle of a South African Pinot that went over well at the last Pinot Noir tasting I attended. I'll probably plan on bringing that, then something else to throw in somewhere, maybe a white. The more I think about it, with the company I have coming over the next few weeks the '85 Vouvray may not make it till then. Razz

On the food lines, I'll browse the cookbooks and see what I can find...

*sigh*

Frown Alas, the evil lords of the work have called and I'm off to the Other Coast and won't be in town that Friday after all. Please have a great time (like I need to ask THIS group to have a good time! Razz) for me and enjoy. Hopefully I'll see you all very soon, and my apologies for having to cancel. I'm really regretting not being able to attend.

Cheers!

I'll bring Old World, can't commit yet as I'm in London and wine is in Seattle. I will bring food, let me know where you need fillers.

Oooh, I absolutely love that bottling, year-in and year-out. It's a great clash of a winery with a very suave and silky style (in general) making a wine from a vineyard that produces very tannic, structured wine.

Cheers!

Yes! That was pretty neat to see her there. The whole competition is a little New York-heavy, though!

Cheers!

The event is a week away, and it's time to firm up plans.

A few of you have not yet contacted me for directions, and I'd like to have a general idea of what everyone is bringing. Specifics are not necessary.

So far, responses are leaning strongly towards an early start, perhaps 5PM.

Don't feel rushed. Kids are more important than wine. We'll save you some of everything to try, and just because we start early doesn't mean we have to end early.
