I think the wife and I will be out of town for our anniversary. If I can help with a location let me know. I have probably a case of Absinthe in the garage that you can have as the "appetizer".

Voting on theme will close after Friday. As of now, CdP has the slightest of leads over Napa Cab..
Let's start brainstorming some ideas on location. "Violet" in Santa Monica is a fun small plates joint (and IIRC the corkage is only $12). It's actually in an area where parking is easy to find. I'd like to hear others' suggestions.

Arrighty folks, voting has closed. The powers that be have chosen "Chateauneuf du Pape" as our theme. An excellent selection, it is. As many of you know the Southern Rhone, especially CdP, has enjoyed an unprecedented run of ridiculously good vintages of late (1998-2007, sans 2002 of course), and many great expressions of this wonderful terroir can still be found for reasonable prices. No longer hidden in Bordeaux's shadow, Chateauneuf du Pape is finally getting the recognition it deserves as a world-class wine-producing region!
Chateauneuf, with 13 permitted grape varieties, offers a wonderfully varied selection of cuvees to choose from. Although Chateauneuf is the home to some of the most ethereal red blends in the world, you white wine lovers need not be put-off as its often overlooked white wines have much to offer as well. I'm sure many of you have some CdP in your cellars that you've been dying to try but just haven't had the occasion to do so (I know I do) ... well, here's your chance to pull one out and give it a ride!
So, let us gather and celebrate life, friends, family, and great wine! Bring friends, family, or just yourself ... the more, the merrier.
I have recommended restaurant Violet (in Santa Monica) for this event, but others' suggestions are definitely encouraged and welcomed, so please share your thoughts.
I would like to have a final head-count by Sunday Oct. 5 so I can secure a reservation at the restaurant of our choice, so please clear your calendars and RSVP by then.
I hope to see many of you there, especially those of you who missed out on our last event. October 11th will be the sort of evening memories are made of! Come one, come all!

V.S., I'm sorry I have to cancel this event for lack of collective interest. I'd love to meet-up with you at a future event, but with nobody else RSVP'ing it looks like this just wasn't meant to happen on this date.

yeah ... I was previously in denial of this fact ... but after posting this event nearly 2 months in advance and receiving nearly no response, the truth is now undeniably apparent ... at least there's eBob.

sorry bud, WS is pretty much all downhill, hopefully we'll get together again for an offline this winter! I'll be back from school in December =)

oh the guilt....
i guess i shouldve taken advantage when i had the chance
sorry all, with school at nights right now, these just aren't possible in the near future except for (1) month of December (2) 2 weeks in April (3) 3 weeks in August
clayfu, we will definitely get together in the [relatively] near future at an OL ... December is a "no go" for me due to finals and holiday travel, but I'll eventually organize another event on eBob, or sign-up for one somebody else organizes. This probably signals my last attempt at trying to organize something for the L.A. WS folks ... everybody is always saying, "we should get together ... it's been sooo long ... I'd looove to do an offline..." and then z-e-r-o response when I take charge and organize something ... whatever, I gave it a shot. People on eBob really have their shit together compared to those here.
kumazam, I'm also busy with night school these days, but I'll let you know when I'm organizing an offline on the eBob website (do you post there as well?). It probably won't be until sometime early next year, however.

sorry, no posting on eBob, theres enough drama here to deal with
i might try organizing something here too, try and get some of the old timers who are still around out into the wood work... even if it ends up just being me and someone else, the party must go one
I am fully guilty of this. For some reason, I just saw this thread (I get them emailed to me every night) and, unfortunately, can't go (even though I was one who suggested the date) - family is in town. Regardless, yeah, WS LA is impossible to get something going on - maybe I should subscribe to ebob for this single reason...

We had well 21 guests over that night at a Rhone style wine event...quite coincidental... CASAdeFUTS
I haven't been on this board in ages...
TBIRD!!! WHen ya coming back??!!??
21 people is a pretty good turnout! And therein lies an apparent difference between LA folks on WLTV and WS. Looks like a very good time was had by all ... I think I may need to start spending some time at WLTV.
