Any interest? I've been thinking about this theme since the CAGE 82 & 89 1st Growth offline somehow didn't gather enough interest. So let's try it again here in Toronto. Only difference is we are not limiting to only 82 and 89....any vintage will do..... Big Grin

Theme: Bordeaux 1st Growth
Venue: Peppercorns Steak House ( WineguyinTo's resto )
Date : 1st or 2nd Saturday of September

I won't be able to attend, but I thought I'd point out that the dates you list are on the September long weekend, so you may want to rethink that.

Oops. I read that as the 1st or 2nd of September.

Disregard the date comment.

Sorry Wilf - I don't have any first growths and don't plan on shelling out a boatload of cash for one that is likely quite far from anything resembling maturity.

I'm a maybe at this point. It would have to be the second Saturday in September for me, though, because the first Saturday is (as futronic pointed out) the Labour Day long weekend.

Hi aav28. I'm up for another off-line at Peppercorns, but I won't be able to meet your criteria for wine. If the theme changes, let me know.

Date is not firm yet, we can go either 1st or 2nd Saturday depends on which date work best for us.

I would like to cap the attendence to 6, which will ensure everybody gets a good pour and will last for the night.

Mezzo, as of right now, I would like to stick with the theme. Let's wait and see.

Also if you are committed, feel free to post your wine choice(s) and we can all discuss if we want to do maybe a horizontal or vertical theme on top.

Well, that was one hell of a week. A lot of my relatives came from all over the world for a family re-union, my birthday celebration was just happen in between. But I definately don't mind doing it every year...... Big Grin

I'm in depending on date and will offer up a 1995 Cheval Blanc if I can make it.

Beyond that, my only other options would be 2001/2002 Mouton Rothschild or 1997/1999 Yquem.

Welcome back Baird, we were all wondering where you were......

Alright, seems like this offline is starting to shape up....

Any preference on date? I know Slan says 2nd Sat of Sept works better for him so far....I'm fine with both 1st or 2nd Sat of September.

Roll Call:

aav28
Slan ( depends on date )
Mezzo Litro ( if theme will change )
DoktaP
Baird ( depends on date ) - 1995 Cheval Blanc, or 2001/2002 Mouton, or 1997/1999 d'Yquem

We might actually be able to attend an event on the long weekend, if that was going to be the date. Of course, I have no First Growths, but I do have 2000 Kirwan and Gruaud-Larose, though they are way too young.

I also have a bottle or two of rather old port..... Wink

I return from Cabo, Mexico let on the 1st, so I likely won't be able to make it that night. Plus, who wants wine after drinking Corona and tequila for a week in the sun? Confused Big Grin

No worries, another time. I would have had to bring something other than a FG anyways.

Although Cheval Blanc is NOT a 1st Growth Bordeaux, but being a Bordeaux St.Emillion Grand Cru Class A, I think it could be included. Unless others do not agree, we will completely stick with only 1st Growth. Other choices of wines besides the 1st Growth as follow:

St.Emillion : Cheval Blanc, Ausone
Sauternes / Barsac : d'Yquem
Pomerol : Lafleur, Petrus, Le Pin

Feel free to chime in. Thanks.

Looks like I can make this Off-Line afterall (provided there is still space available). I will bring a 1994 Ch. Latour.
