Board-O,

Once I confirmed flights to Ottawa for the October and November offlines, I realized I had a problem! Flying anywhere just to drink wine makes me a good candidate for extensive therapy Big Grin Wink

Baird6869:

Any doctor would tell you to just stop running around on all these trips. Stay home and relax, and have a glass of wine. Big Grin

I am qualified to give that advice. But you have to invite me over. I do house calls to taste wine. Big Grin

The Ottawa crew should return the favor and come to offlines in Toronto. We live vicariously through these notes.

Just one more sip.

Speaking of coming to Toronto, Board-0, do you ever have a chance of coming to Hogtown? Maybe we can do an Ottawa re-union with Bman, carried, etc.... Big Grin

Both carriedca and I have been to TWC offlines, and I'm sure I speak for us both in saying that we look forward to doing so again!

My wife and I are still poring over menu options for the offline we are hosting. Would it be a terrible thing if the wine was Italian but the food, not so much?

Carriedca - I think we need to have lunch again to decide which wines I should bring. Trying to ensure that we get three offlines right is complicated! Confused Confused Confused

Not to jinx it of course, but...

Bman/Carried,

I'm sure everything will be perfect! Good wine and good company is the most important thing. If the menu you choose doesn't go with any of the wines I wanted to bring, lemme know and I will bring something else! I Think the wines will go with whatever you make....

If the menu is Kraft Dinner and grilled cheese, so be it! Who says CDP and Piedmont wines don't go with that? Big Grin Wink

I will send both of you an email in the next couple of days as I need to know how to get to the offline from Kanata and a convenient hotel to stay at.

Looking forward to it!

Brent

1997 Fattoria di Manzano Podere il Bosca syrah

1997 Cepparello

1997 Allegrini amarone

1997 Tommasi amarone

1997 Michele Chiarlo Asili barbaresco

1995 Sordo Barolo

1998 Poggio Scalete il Carbonaione

1998 Arnaldo-Caprai Montefalco riserva

Bman, if you are talking about 98 Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni, I suggest to wait it for at least 2 or 3 years or so; it's a BIG SLEEPER in this phase. Big Grin

98 Carbonaione it's already delicious and ready to drink.

bman,

Make whatever you like - I'm sure things will go fine. Just because the majority of wine I drink is Italian, doesn't mean that all of the food that I make is Italian.

BABA,

The '98 Il Carbonaione is drinking great right now, I agree. I've got one more bottle and hope to save it for a little while longer.

Bman: No need for all the food to be Italian, or any of it. Everything should be fine. Let me know in advance what you plan on making so I can choose the wines to bring.

Baird6869: Your selection is fine. I planned the food around the types of wines you were bringing. We'll have the Bord's with beef, and save the Rhones for the lamb. On the Friday, I'll be off in the afternoon. If you want I can pick you and Jay up earlier. Your choice. I'll look into a hotel for you.

Futronic: We'll keep the Vin Santo for the Saturday, to go with the Biscoti I'll bring and compare to a younger Vin Santo. As for the reds, you choose which would be better on Friday, a Barolo or Brunello. And please don't forget the 2 shirazes (is that how you spell plural of shiraz?).

I may open something else up on the Friday, as surprise/blind. I just need to get it from my Dad's cellar (yeah I know, still haven't transfered everything yet).

carried,

I think Shiraz pluralized is still Shiraz. Smile Regardless, I won't forget the Mentelle.

Carriedca,

I guess if I change my mind and bring a Gallo white zinfandel and a bottle of Mateus, it might screw up you food and wine matching? Big Grin Razz

Actually, I think you have to show the bottles out on the porch before they'll let you in. If they see White Zin and/or Matteus, I don't think the door will open.

Carried,

Can I add a half bottle of 1997 Selbach Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese to the October list? Or would that be too much wine? It is only 7.5% alc and a very good Auslesen.... and it is Friday night after all! Wink

It is looking like I will be stuck in Kanata until 6:00 or 6:30 the night of the offline. My office is just off Eagleson Road south of the 417. I will likely have a rental car that I would leave at the hotel (if you can let me know the closest one) and cab to and from the offline.

Too much wine? I didn't think any of the TWC knew what that meant Wink

I think baird had a brain fart. We've never had too much wine. Maybe just not enough time to get through the copious amounts. Wink

OK, after much agonizing, we have almost decided for sure what to eat and drink at the offline we will host! Roll Eyes

carriedca - would you mind if we served a prime rib roast, since the fifth Ottawa offline is a month after the fourth? (you had mentioned you might serve rib roast at the fifth) We got a couple of beautiful prime rib roasts today and are looking for an excuse (and large enough group) to serve the biggest of the two. And if we did, we could then open the 95 Sordo barolo and one of eitherthe Podere il Bosco or Ceparallo

futronic - if carriedca doesn't mind risking two prime ribs in a month, would you choose the Podere il Bosco or the Ceparello? You're not off the hook yet! Razz You said you liked your barolo with roasts, and while the Sordo is so light that it hardly seems like a barolo at all (not that I would know, but that's what I was told when I posted TNs on it here:

http://forums.winespectator.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=9306023451&f=3146091161&m=3706025081

it would be fun to try it. In fact, it was on the same thread that you suggested a simple roast for the Sordo, and where I committed to holding my big Italians until you made it to Ottawa for an offline. Another circle closed! Big Grin

We would start the meal off with an antipasti of bread, cold meats, artichokes, olives, etc.

And I also bought today a big chunk of English Stilton, as well as a soft and stinky French cheese, to go with the ports.

So carriedca, let me know what you think, here or via private e-mail or coffee/lunch next week, and we can nail this baby down! Cool

Not to jinx it of course, but...

Lions rule!

I'll be curious to see your TN's on the Sordo. I have a few in my cellar. The last time I tried it, I was totally disappointed. Not worthy of the
score it received from either WS or RP. Maybe a "dumb" phase. Frown

carried,

You can take the question marks off the 1996 Sasseti Brunello. I think that would work nicely on Friday.

As for Saturday's offline, add a 1998 Borgogno Barolo. I don't think we have enough wine for Saturday, so I'll bring something else. Not sure what yet. I'll post it over the next couple days.
