Since February is rapidly coming to an end, I thought it might be a good idea to start talking about March! This upcoming offline (if we succeed in having one) will mark the half-year mark for our illustrious little fellowship!! Cool Any interest?? Wink

I live in DC, and am a relative newbie to the forum, although have posted a few times and generally read every day.

I am definately a novice in the area of wine, but it has quickly become a passion that I must continually satisfy.

I would be interested in an offline, but must admit I am very intimidated due to my lack of knowledge and of what I could bring to the table.

If you and the DC/MD/NOVA offliners have room for a novice, I would be interested, as long as the hazing ritual isn't too intense!

Looks like anything other than the weekend of March 18 -19 will work for me. I am getting a hankering for foie gras yet again...(imagine that) Big Grin

klymkev, fret not. We are a kind and gentle collection of folk. Our ritual is quite blasé; pastoral even. We don't usually pull out the water buffalo hats until your second offline and the sheep until your third. Eek

klymkev--

We are actually nice people.
Do you have any expertise in fire fighting? This may be an important attribute.

newsguy - We'd love to have you! Where in MD are you going to be living?

klymkev - I didn't attend my first offline until around a year after I knew what an offline was! I kicked myself in the butt for waiting so long. Mad You are required to bring a First Growth from 1945, 1961 or 1982 to your first offline, however it's all downhill from there.... Razz

I think the gang will agree, that the "wine snob" factor is completely non-existent in our group. Other than Festiva and cometspider's proclivity toward bread basket arson, a more normal group of people you couldn't imagine.... Big Grin

Sigman? Are you out there?

How do you folks look for an offline on the last weekend of the month? 25-26th?

PH,

My next restaurant offering, Aida Bistro, is closed on Sundays. We may be able to accommodate your Saturday wish fairly soon!

Sunday, March 26 looks clear on our calendar- that was the date we were talking about, right? Do we have a locale? Is it time to try out the Brass Elephant?

cs,

Yup. Sunday the 26th looks like a good day. irwin is a possible, and it'll give newsguy a chance to get settled. If Festiva gets rid of his cooties, I'll bet he'll make it, an Gf won't miss an offline unless he's in traction!! Razz I'll leave the choice of venue to you or one of the other Baltimorons (this term used with great respect of course Big Grin) as there is nothing in my area other than DC that will work for our gang.

New dudes (dudettes?) this is the time to speak up! Offlining is like hang gliding. You can't quit once you start, but the first jump takes a little courage!! Big Grin

re: Aida Bistro. Love to do it. Wink

Purple, do you really hang glide? If not, you are not qualified to use that analogy.

klymkev & newsguy,

Just go. Don't overthink it. Wink Smile

I went to my first offline only last May. They are blast. Generally, you'll enjoy great wines and, always, nice, unpretentious people. (As a bonus, some forumites are really, really funny.)

I myself would love the opportunity to get together with the Maryland crew.

Cheers!

just a skosh:
Southwest will fly you here cheap. Gee, if we go back to the Rooster it's a five minute cab (that's taxicab, not cabernet) ride!
I guess the airfare wouldn't be any more than some of the stuff cometspider brings. Big Grin

PH, you don't??? Eek And, here I thought we had so much in common. Smile

I believe you'd said a trip to the Big D might be in the works. If that pans out, I promise to keep the problematic crudite at bay...Smile

Howdy, do you accept foreigners from PA? Smile I'd only be able to come if wives are allowed as she loves wine too!

MJ6464,

These things have typically started from 6:30 to 7:00. They also tend to last at least 3 hours, so would recommend booking a room. Seriously. The last thing you want to be doing is driving 3 hours home after an offline. Eek Hope you can make it! MD winos, any thoughts on a venue/theme?

Talked to the Mrs. (JJ) and she likes the idea of an extended weekend. We just have to confirm if we can take that Monday off. We'll probably come down Sat. and hit the aquarium in the morning on Sun. So, count 2 as tentative.
