It's not looking too good for me on the 22nd of April. The colleague of mine that had promised to switch our call schedule has reneged and I can't find a substitute. Though I was eagerly anticipating meeting some new forumites and seeing everyone, I must send regrets.
This call schedule is becoming a real pain in the a$$. Frown

Unfortunately I will not be able attend. I didn't realize that it was Orthodox Easter that weekend and this means lots of family events with the inlaws.

Hope eveyone has a great evening.

Unfortunately I am going to have to bow out of this one. I will be traveling the rest of this week and 4 days next week so I need to spend a little time at home.

I am going to be in TO next week for work, but not sure how much free time I will have. One of those conferences where I have to entertain customers for dinner.

WineguyinTO and Fut, I have some wine for you. Shall I bring them and try to set up a drop at least?

I don't own any Bordeaux. Even if I did, opening 2003s at this point is just crazy. Razz

Seeing as I don't have any aged Rhones that are anywhere near being ready and the only 03 Bordeaux I have received so far is Ch. Pipeau (on the cheap side), I will bring a 1995 Pichon Baron.

Al,

I drank the 1995 Baron at a wine event last month and it was amazing. Better than many other big hitters (1995 Mission HB, Pichon Lalonde, Montrose, etc.)

It is truly a great wine. Decant it for a couple of hours beforehand if you have the time.

I am free tomorrow night for a change and would be interested in attending if possible. I don't know who is organising, but pls let me know if another spot can be made available.

It's way late, I know, so no worries if it doesn't work out this time.

I'm afraid I will not be able to attend. My wife, already pretty wiped due to her pregnancy, has come down with a nasty cold and I don't think I'd be wise to leave her alone with our young daughter to look after. Sorry, I was really looking forward to meeting you all and sharing wine and conversation. Hopefully I can make it to another offline soon.

otw, I guess a spot just opened up.

How did we end up with all these Rhones if it is a 2003 Bordeaux tasting?

Most people don't have many 2003s yet, which is cool but I would be willing to sacrifice a 2003 Beycheville instead of my CdP if other 2003s are being brought.

BTW, It has been over a week since my last sip of wine due to my diet, so I will be falling off the wagon in style and bringing my red and the following 2 bottles....

1996 Nicholas Feuillatte Brut Cramant Grand Cru Champagne for appetizers

2003 Castello Banfi Florus Moscadello di Montalcino for dessert

If memory serves me right Splat has plenty of decent stemware so all we need to bring are decanters......right?

I don't have any CdP or other Rhones earlier than 98, and my understanding is that the 98's may be shut down so it would have to be a younger CdP or something else. I do have quite a few 99's and 01's, but I'd have to look in the cellar.

I don't know Splatt's menu, but a couple of other thoughts might be:

1. Any interest in Phelps 'Le Mistral' 2000? I had this recently and was quite surprised how good it was.

2. What about a white CdP? I've got several good ones but, again, I don't know how this might fit with Splatt's menu)?

3. If we can slip over from grenache to a syrah-cabernet blend, one of my favourite wines from that area of France is Chateau Calissane 2000 Clos Victoire.

Any comments?
