I was hoping it would be one of the greatest wines ever, not greatest Champagnes ever. I will pull the '90 Salon or the '88 Krug next. |

Haunting is a good word. Here goes my list:
1988 Salon - Never knew Champagne could taste like that. Absolutely stunning. 1988 Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill - Ditto above but in a different way (good way). 1985 Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento - Beguiling wine that only got better as the evening progressed. Aged BdM is hard to beat. 1990 Fuligni - Elegant nose and palate to match. 1997 L'Apparita - Gorgeous!! 1979 Giacosa Villero Barolo - Really still a baby but oh what a wine. Dried rose potpouri and enough tar to pave your driveway. 2001 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve - Just now seeing what this wine will become. 1997 Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello - Surprisingly drinkable right now 1998 Gaja Sperss - Nice treat. First time tasting. 2000 Bruno Rocca Barbaresco Rabaja - Beautiful expression of Nebbiolo. 1994 Solaia - Still my favorite Solaia of all time. 1999 Quintarelli Valpolicella - Striking for the sheer contrast that it presented. 1997 Pertimali - Really coming into its own right now. Very nice BdM. Wish I could have tasted: 1997 Siro Pacenti 1990 Pieve Santa Restituta Rennina (pre-Gaja) magnum 1995 Ornellaia 1988 Ornellaia 1997 Castelgiocondo Ripe al Convento Riserva 1998 Paolo Scavino Carobric 2000 Galatrona And these were the ones I saw but did not get to taste. There were many more that I missed completely. So much wine and really so little time. Thanks again to everyone for their incredible generosity. |

The only one I saw taking detailed notes was Futronic. We can expect a full account in 2010. |

What a great event! Thanks to Purple Haze, Een, and grossie for organizing it...and for all the out-of-towners making the harrowing trek through O'Hare to hit the Windy City. And thanks for making room for Mrs. O at the last minute. She had a great time after a rough week at work.
A special heartfelt thanks to the TWC for the wonderful gift. I hope you guys can make it to CDP 2009 to see it hanging on my wall! The wines were sublime and relentlessly great, although my bottles from the disco era were a crap shoot, with the '79 Tig barely Staying Alive. My WOTN was the '90 Fuligni. Cheers, Otis |

We're at futronics disposal. I didn't take a single note all weekend other than mental notes of which were my favorites, where they are right now, a score, etc... Nothing formal. Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

I think Chef Vince would love that photo. I heard from Tomas who again complimented me on this lovely group of friends. He said it is rare that a group is so easy and friendly. They all had a great time working with us that evening.

Is a bridal registry in order, KSC02?

Smartasses. You're right, but you're still smartasses! Anyway, I'm uploading pictures now. PH - pick up your jaw. I just need to tag the photos then I can post a link. As for tasting notes, I only have notes for the wines at our table in addition to a sip of the 1979 Tignanello. I could list off the majority of other wines that I tasted but no comments. I loved the 1988 Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill. The reds that I liked best (with notes) were the 1985 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento, 1990 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino and the 1979 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Villero. Everything was outstanding, with not a dud in the bunch! Otis - glad you liked the Fuligni, especially considering I had you mule it around for me! Fantastic night all around. Really enjoyed myself - but that was to be expected. Great too see so many familiar faces and meet a couple new ones too. Finally crashed around 5am, since a group went back to the hotel to finish off what few dregs there were! |

No one at this dinner should have been anywhere near the wheel of a vehicle.
Anyway, photos are up. Check the link here. |

Ohhh, the humanity of it all... I miss out on this weekend and I lose Skosh to Longboarder! I guess it's as the saying goes, "You snooze, you lose!" Kicked to the curb!
Racka Fracka, I'm kicking myself for missing out on this weekend. The pics probably don't do justice to how much fun everyone had. I hope to make next year. |

Looks like an awesome night. I’m going to have to get off my butt and get to one of these offlines. CT says 20% of my cellar is Italian
