I agree with both of you that it's not a necessity, but it would be nice to have everyone drinking the same wines. We're doing a CdP tasting in MD with 18 and seem to be doing just fine getting a couple bottles of each wine to taste. Certainly worth a try, especially given the potentially long planning phase for these damn things. Otherwise, we just get a bunch of wine and drink! It IS about the people, no doubt! Cool

Again, "would be nice," but isn't a requirement. There'll be plenty of great wine to go around. Also, if we're looking at some older vintages, sourcing multiple bottles is not exactly easy, especially when considering provenance.

Keep in mind what happened last April at the Brunello offline in Philly. We had some disappointing bottles, with many affected by questionable storage.

Totally agree about the provenance issue. I was a victim of this as were others.

I would love to join the party if there is still room. And would certainly be happy to assist in set-up as your Chicago field man.

PH: feel free to email me at m dot boersma at comcast dot net if you want to discuss logistics.

Cheers,

Otis

Was hoping to hear from you, otis! Cool Will e-mail in the next few days. Any initial thoughts on a good venue with a larger room for 20+ winos?

Also, it's looking like April will be a tough month for most who have responded so far. That leaves a "hurry up," for March or a May date. Any preferences by the gang?

I'm in too if there's room.

At Otis' CDP of 2005 or 2006 (not the last one, the one before) we held a dinner at a now-defunct restaurant that was attended by about 50-60 IIRC. We had an entire room to ourselves, and not everyone got to taste every wine, but it was definitely do-able and fun. That may change the nature of this event however so of course it is the call of those in charge.

We'll get 'em next year!

It just seemed like there were a lot of April dates that were not good for some. Skoshy has suggested the weekend of 4-26. Works for me. Anyone else?

April 26 works for me. Please also include 1 more for me, as Djenane would like to attend I believe and should be in town then. Just let me know if it's an issue. (KSC02+1) Smile

I've heard a few people comment that May MIGHT be better for Chicago, that it might be a little warmer and a bit of Spring in the air. However 4/26 works for me or after mid May.

Busted! That's funny. I've been really good about not writing the wrong date so far this year. This was my first fubar.
