(Geez, I just felt like MWG there. Sorry Roll Eyes )

Seriously, no issues with me, either. I can go with whatever Chef prefers.

Talked with Steve, the owner at Campagnola a few minutes ago. The chef is considering the artichoke component in the Quail dish and they're kicking around some options. I'll post the result when I hear back from them, proably early next week.

I need some help from a local on stems. Steve has some generic big wine glasses, but based on his description I'm wondering if they're what we want. I'd earlier suggested to him that it would be nice to have some Bordeaux style stems for the Brunello and STs and Burgundy stems for the Nebbiolo, and that if reasonable we could build the glass rental charges into our prix fixe. So here's what I need:

1) Can a local swing by Campagnola sometime fairly soon and take a look at their stems? If you think they're fine then we can move on.

2) Steve indicated he didn't have a source for high end stem rental. Any ideas on this in the event we need to start looking?

TIA!

PH

I can carry my stems and I suspect a few others of us can if need be. Unlike wine, I can carry them on.

I hear you, PlanoWino.......but if we can avoid having 28 people haul stems from all over North America, it would be a good thing. Cool

I've got a fine tradition of buying my stems in Chicago and abandoning them at Otis's house when I'm done with them. Big Grin

So PH, Otis does rent stems for the CDP, you might drop him an email and see where he gets them. He usually gets the small ones, but his source might have better glasses. Drop me a note if you need his email.

Campagnola is a nice restaurant. I'd be very surprised if their wine glasses were inadequate.

Even the owner thinks they're inadequate. He's talking about upgrading his glasses as we speak.

I've finally got my schedule worked out and I will definitely be in Chicago for this. Unfortunately my timing is going to cost me as it seems the availability of hotel rooms in the Gold Coast is not what it was a couple of months ago. Frown Any of the participants find any good deals recently?

Not much help from me Steve8. I am coming up Friday and returning Sunday but using points to stay at the newly reopened Blackstone Hotel. I just checked their website and the lowest rate listed was $339. Thank goodness for points.

The Sofitel is a little less than the Blackstone, but not by much. That being said, their beds kick a$$. Cool And partying with this bunch, I'm gonna need comfortable accomodations.

Steve, check your email. If you're going to spend $300 a night in Chicago, the Sofitel Water Tower Chicago has a special weekend escape rate for $320. I forwarded you the email I got a couple days ago.

It's a little farther away from Water Tower, but the Palmer House Hilton is around $199.

Thanks to Otis, we shall be drinking from Riedels. Cool We'll have 3 red stems per diner. We'll use the house Champagne flutes. If you want any more stems, BYO.

Campagnola has 3 decanters, including one that their lead server Tomas indicates might be past it's prime. The rental company that Otis came up with does not rent decanters, but does list 1 liter carafes and "beer pitchers" on their list of available containers that might serve as decanters.

Chicagoans? How are you set for decanters in the windy city?

Steve S. the owner at Campagnola says that the chef will rotate the artichokes out of the quail dish and make an appropriate substitution. The menu is now confirmed.
