Thanks much for a lovely evening, much fine food, and all the effort that went into hosting.
I thought the 2005 Vincent Arroyo Zin should receive my nomination for the best new boy on the block; just this morning the Relentless peaked on my palate, and stood up to the coffee well.
We ran into a snag on the way back - DC beltway was stopped dead for ~ 45 min, to pull a smashed police vehicle off the the side. NG cried more, more, more...

what a wonderful welcome back to the area. thanks so much to the cometspiders for being such a gracious hosts -- especially adjusting seamlessly and moving the festivities indoors due to weather. an evening of great food and wine. i can't really pick a WOTN, though. i realized at the end of the night that at one point i had considered five different wines for that spot, so this was a deep lineup. sorry, but took no TNs. just drank way too much and ate way too much. thanks again to jace for the taxi service.
great seeing everyone and looking forward to doing it again next month.
Yes, thanks so much, Cometspiders, for another great hosting job. A good time is always had Chez Cometspider. You were very generous and the meal was fantastic.
I was pretty good taking small pours so as not to overdo it, but I have to say, I should have been more disciplined with the food... Man, I stuffed myself like a glutton! So tasty. Thanks all!
It turns out it's good that Klymkev couldn't make it... Not only would he have had to suffer the injustice of the Redskins taking it to the Cowgirls during the last game at their home stadium, but he would have had to watch it knowing I had razzed him the night before predicting such an outcome!
So with Newsguy not being quite on the ball (we rely on his note-taking!!), is there a chance you could post the undeclared wines that showed up, Cometspider? The bubblies... the malbec... any others?

Be careful.
As customary with Redskin fans, you win a few games and automatically it's Super Bowl talk. You're still only 3 - 1 with a VERY tough game in Philly this weekend.
I would add something about chickens and hatching here, but, nah, I'll just tuck this post away for the future.
Glad a good time was had by all.

Now if only the Cowboys could run the ball like their fans run their... No, no, no... I like Kevin too much to razz him just for razzin' sake. You have to forgive me, bud... My Cowboy fanatic brother-in-law wasn't home when I called him before the game to remind him that the game was on (as sarcastic as taht can be, as I think he flew down for the game from New Jersey), so I had some pent up teasing to release.

So this is what I have as the final wine lineup, though I don't have the order quite right.
We warmed up with a vintage Domaine Carneros Cuvee Taittinger? and a rose I just can't recall... (please help).
2003 Turley Hayne Zinfandel 2005 Vincent Arroyo Zin 2002 Shafer Relentless 2005 Viña Doña Paula Malbec Seleccion de Bodega 2005 Dominio del Plata BenMarco Expresivo Mendoza 2003 Catena Zapata Alta Lot 1 Altamira Vineyard Malbec 2004 Seghesio Family Vineyards Zinfandel Lumetta (Rockpile) 2005 Valdez Family Rockpile Road Vineyard Zinfandel 2004 Dolium Malbec Reserva 2003 Baumard Quarts de Chaume
Very nice wines all. Like with Jace, my favorite kept shifting, too.
The Relentless and Catena were heavy-weights... The big boys of the bunch. The zins all offered a good bit of variety, with the Turley being spicy, the Arroyo being so tasty and easy to drink, the Rockpiles quite different from each other. Baumard was so tasty.
Irwin, Klymkev, sibster, Festiva... Sorry you missed... we look forward to catching you soon.

It was a 2001 vintage that we started with. When I get a chance I will post the asparagus recipe in the appropriate spot.
It was a very enjoyable evening, and I appreciate the hospitality of the hosts, and the friendship of the group. Each evening is a unique but tremendous learning experience.
