Campanile Restaurant in Los Angeles will be hosting an Austrian Winemakers Dinner on Monday, February 27th, 2006 featuring some great wines from Winemonger.

Winemaker Franz-Josef Gritsch of the Gritsch Mauritiushof winery in the Wachau region of Austria will be on hand to discuss his wines as well as the wines of his close friend and neighbor, Johann Donabaum. You will taste from a range of Gruner Veltliners and Rieslings, as well as a selection of dessert wines from the Burgenland region.


The wines to be poured are:

2003 Kalmuck Gruner Veltliner Steinfeder (a joint project of Gritsch and Donabaum)

2003 Gritsch Mauritiushof Axpoint Gruner Veltliner Federspiel
2003 Donabaum Spitzer Point Gruner Veltliner Federspiel

2003 Gritsch Mauritiushof Singerriedel Gruner Veltliner Smaragd
2003 Donabaum Loibner Garden Gruner Veltliner Smaragd

2003 Gritsch Mauritiushof 1000-Eimerberg Riesling Smaragd
2003 Donabaum Offenberg Riesling Smaragd

2002 Heiss Traminer Eiswein
2002 Wenzel Riesling Beerenauslese
2001 Feiler-Artinger Ruster Ausbruch



The menu for the evening is as follows:

First Course
Grilled oysters and fritto misto

Second Course
Sauteed duck leg confit on frisee with meyer lemon and caper relish

Main Course
Veal involtini stuffed with dried apricots, cavolo nero and goat cheese

Dessert
Roasted quince with date strudel and buttermilk sherbet

Campanile is located at 624 south la brea avenue in Los Angeles.
Seating is limited, so please call soon for your reservation!

They will be charging a prix-fix of $85 (plus tax & tip) for this event.

Well, thanks! Although, from the face, I'm guessing you're not sincere.

Actually, I was on this board a while ago but have not posted in some time and couldn't dig up my password. I'll try harder to find it, so you can see that I didn't just pop in now for the first time. If that's what has offended you. Or did I put this announcement in the wrong place?

Yeah Hunter, I can vouch for the guy. I remember him helping me on a Austrian wine question I had in the past.

Thank you guys for the warm welcome, and doubly thanks for the introduction ArieS.

To clear things up,- or actually to add to the confusion,- you were kind enough, ArieS, to jump in for my wife Emily who does use a similar screen name, due to the company we run together, - Winemonger...

But she too deserves the voucher, as she has been around this board for a little but ostensibly lost her initial credentials.

Anyhow,- this turns into a Billy Wilder type plot. I should end it here.
