A little time to kill and was thinking , anyone in Toronto want to do a dinner, cost of admission everyone who attends brings 1 bottle of a 100 point wine either parker, ws , or tanzer. venue and number of participants to be to be determined. We could also lower it say 98 points or better. Just a thought.
That would be cool but I personally have very few 100 pointers besides very limited amounts of 1994 port.
I have many more 96-98 pointers though. How about 95 or even 96 points and up, and anyone caught bringing a bottle of Dead Arm has to pick up the cheque?
Not that I'm excited, but I ALREADY KNOW WHAT I'M BRINGING!
Great idea darth...I was actually going to suggest (and post) it for the theme of the TWC's upcoming 2nd Anniversary bash, but I'm pretty sure that at THAT bash, even Yellowtail will taste great!
Dok ,see if Asterixis is interested and let me know. I also have a friend and maybe one other who is in. I do think that we should initially try to line up 100 pointers and see where we get, so far assuming asterixis there are 5 confirmed 100 pointers, cutoff 8 persons. I want to be able to enjoy and reflect on each wine rather than hurry up for the next wine.

Originally posted by DoktaP: I'd be in if there's enough interest. We definitely need a point cutoff. I'd say any wine 99 points or better. What say ye?
Dok,
Can I get a loan? 2 49.5 pointers for a 99?
Seriously.... figure out how many spots we have and allow for younguns like Fut and I to bring serious but not necessarily 100 point wines.
Maybe not 100 pointers, but hey, what's wrong with Fut's 97 Point $100-150 Brunello and my almost perfect Dominus, Leoville Las Cases or Cheval Blanc (for example)? Or even a DRC or older firsh growth?
Bottom line..... I think a VERY HIGH END WINE dinner would be tres cool.
A quick scan of my inventory shows that, sadly, I don't own any 100-point wines. I do have a few rated "98+" and if the threshold is lowered to 96 or 97, then I've got several options. I'd still love to come, though, so I'll keep my eyes open for something to pick up.
Another idea would be to also permit any wine that was named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year. I have a couple of those as well, and even though they're not 100-pointers I'm sure people would be interested in trying them.
I must say that as much as I like the notion of a 100 point wine night, I don't like the fact that it seems to be somewhat exclusionary. This shouldn't be solely for the elite, but for elite wines. Slans idea of including WS's WOTY seems to be more inclusive for TWC members. The Guigal CdP and the Paloma merlot were affordable upon release and should be given serious consideration. It's not that I'm a socialist, but I'd hate to be divisive based on $$. Just my .02.
Ditto Dok. I love to attend, but then my 100 pointers are all so young that I'll be wasting it. Might have to look and search for an mature ready to drink bottle.
Lets face it, it is an expensive endeavour being proposed for each participant, but it is not unlike any other similar event or tasting where stellar wines are being poured. That is how i think of it. I agree it is exclusionary because we are talking about the best of the best, those rare wines that get the magic 100. I agree entirely with the other suggestions and if someone wants to organize another theme great, they can run with it. My theme is this and if any one wants to attend fine. If no one from these boards is interested that is also fine. I take it Dok you are not interested? if any one feels more comfortable communicating in private that is fine also. One should not feel guilty because they are participating, this is just one dinner!
so far the confirmed line up of wines are; 1990 Montrose 1982 Pichon Lalande 1982 Leoville Las Case. For those that want to come but do not have the wine please let me know as i am trying to source wine domestically that can be bought for the dinner, space is limited.
I am updating on the wines because i know some of you are trying to source wine.I am trying as well for those that are willing to purchase. 1982 Leoville las case 1982 pichon lalande 1989 La Mission Haut Brion 1990 Montrose 1995 Margaux 1996 lafite
Dessert wine will be provided so please do not source any. Confirmed people attending is now 8. I'm thinking 10 max. 2 attendees yet to select their wines. Dates first two weeks in december will know more in a couple days. Andrewf post your e-mail address.

I think a seperate high end offline where only the very best wines would be brought would be of interest to me and many others. 100 pointers not necessary, but don't show up with Dead Arm.
