I'm glad you're funnier in person, Festiva.

Food!! Yes. I welcome suggestions. I can grill some beef. That sounds like it would be tasty with wines.

I'm thinking we'd also need:
appetizer or two
veggie or two
starch
desert

I'm always bitching about never doing port for desert... Who's up for a 1983 Cockburn with desert?

Again... Feel free to make recommendations.

I knew I shouldn't have suggested the port.

You can't go wrong with port....and here I was going to bring a '29 Yquem to share. Big Grin

We'll actually be up at Tavern on the Green in Central park for dinner that night and I am really looking forward to it. We've always wanted to give it a try. Now just have to decide on what to order off of the list there! Big Grin I think I'll let my lovebug off the hook easy though and won't order the '98 Macassin pinot, or '99 Petrus. Big Grin -mJ

I don't normally go to offlines that I can't get to on the METRO, mainly because I won't drive at night after drinking wine, but if I can arrange it with the wife to let me out that day, I'd love to attend. Maybe I can catch a ride with PH since he lives near me. Of course, I have the same problem as markjahnke, no Northern Rhones in the cellar, but I'll look.

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Hey dinwiddie: good to see you on the Chow board too! I knew your name looked familiar from somewhere, and it finally hit me.

Northern Rhone is tough for me, got plenty of Southern Rhone though. When I first saw Rhone, I was thinking a mag of the '04 Clos des Papes, but then I saw it was the north...not that I really wanted to pop one of these this early, but it was an option... -mJ

Yep. I'm there too, but I probably fit better into the definition they dispise "foodie" than Chowhound, as my ample waistline will attest. But after all, what is an appreciation of wine without an appreciation of food?

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Well the wife said I can slip the leash so I'll figure out a way to get there. Like I said, I don't have much Northern Rhone, but I can bring a 1998 E.Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde. Let me think about what to bring of the edible variety.

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Oh, yeah! Two Guigals... Thanks, PH & Dinwiddie. I'm really looking forward to next weekend.

We're at 11. Anyone else going to take the 12th slot?

I have zero Northern Rhone. That being the case, I needed to run out yesterday and pick a little something up for this get together. I found a 1999 Domaine de Monteillet Côte-Rôtie Fortis. Hopefully, it's some good stuff.

din - You're more than welcome to ride with me. E-mail me and we'll work it out.

Put me down for La Bete Noir (flourless dark chocolate cake) for dessert. I cannot hope to compete with Gf in the dessert category, but this cake is mighty tasty and will pair superbly with a vintage Port.

Didn't we have this at that place in the Watergate a few years back? If so, I'm psyched to taste it again. It was muy tasty.

Lentini,

If you would like, I can bring some cheeses. Say a Stilton and a good stinky Big Grin blue to go with the Port. Or if you wish, I can make a salad.

When in doubt, open another bottle.

Just wanted to chime in and let you boys know I am still in. I'm traveling back from a week on the Central Coast. If this were CA Syrah themed, I'd have TONS to choose from.

Being that it isn't, and I am glad it's not, particularly due to some of the gems you are all bringing, I will need to source something this week. I will be sure to chime in with something ASAP.

As for food, put us down for some kind of appetizer and/or something additional, if needed. Specifics to follow.

We're still in, just trying to figure out what to bring.

This is shaping up quite nicely!

Still working on the wine, but I need to change the count. The Mrs. will not be in attendance.

Also, if all are OK with it, I can bring along the Spanish family Gazpacho? Those who enjoy garlic will be in heaven!

If the weather holds as they are saying it will, (80s) we may need something light like this to start.

Wine pairing may be tough, possibly bubbles? I'm open to suggestions.

If anyone is not a fan of gazpacho, not big deal. I can make something else.
