Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion, Charlie.

Here's the lineup from last night. However, I thought that the Peter Lehmann Sémillon said "Sauternes" on the label but I couldn't find a listing for a wine like that.

2004 Mountford Chardonnay
2003 Fetzer Gewürztraminer Valley Oaks
1994 Weingut Eduard Hauth Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese
2005 Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch (Erben Müller-Burggraef) Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese
2003 S.A. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese
2004 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Brand Vendange Tardive
2007 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
1978 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône
1999 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage
2006 Château Ballan-Larquette
1999 Linne Calodo Cherry Red
2006 Brick Angel "Littlefoot"
2004 Tablas Creek Tannat
2004 Saxum James Berry Vineyard
2005 Jaffurs Syrah Verna's
1985 Hill Smith Estate Sémillon
1985 Peter Lehmann Sémillon Botrytis

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Out of curiosity, which of the wines stood out with Chinese food? Or, on the flip side, which dishes lended themselves to specific wine pairings?

----------
"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

I thought all the wines worked out fine with the food. There was enough rice and water to wash out any spice =)

How was the Tablas Creek Tannat? I really enjoyed the 05.

Also

What was that 78 Guigal like? I heard some Cotes can do 10+ years, but that wine seems like a roll of the dice/curiosity type of buy.

Clayfu, thanks for organizing! It was a great night. I spent most of Sunday in bed with a hangover. Note to self: use spit bucket in future. Eek

Red guy, I thought that all of the whites and the Pinot held up well, and the other reds did ok. But for me, I lost the complexity that some of the wines offered when tasted with the spicier dishes (and for some time after).

spo, unfortunately I didn't get around to the Tannat so I can't comment on that one. But the Guigal came from my uncle's cellar and was definitely a roll of the dice wine. It didn't show much fruit at first, though that improved with air time. But it never stood up to the acidity. Well over the hill, but it only had a couple of toes in the grave.

Was good times...thanks to all.

I really liked the Jaffurs and Saxum (although I brought that one), and was blown away by that Linne Calodo.

See y'all soon. Start planning the SLO trip!

It was Dr. Thanisch - Mueller-Burggraef 2005 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese.

Who do you have to probe around here to get a chardonnay?
