Still, the wine selection should be interesting.. Clayfu, since this is your world what do you think about Zins? My Linne Calodo stash is still young, but maybe this is the time to bust it out.. I guess a riesling is never a bad option.. Sean T. will be in heaven..
Wow, 15.. cool, nice to have soo much interest.. It will be good to see ya'll.. It seems like it has been a while.. DK thanx for making the drive down to SD for the event... Maybe we can toast to SPO in his absence and coerce him to come out of the woodwork in the near term..
Cheers and see ya'll on Sat...

Booked! 6:30pm, 4/4 under Charlie Fu. We have the back area to ourselves. I ordered a few dishes already that they need to pre-make but everything else we'll order on the spot.
We will have a mix of spicy and NO spice dishes. Please let me know your tolerance level for the dishes and we can tell them cause there are some SPICY dishes there.
Now for the wines for spicy chinese food:
Most whites are good, unless they are super oaky. Poorly integrated oak shows really strong with spice. Rieslings, Alsace Pinot Gris/Rieslings, whatever you want as long as it's not a California butter popcorn drink ^_^. Feel free to experiment with a red if you think it'll match... we'll have so many dishes it'll be fine! I think linne Calodo might be good if you want to break one open, i think the acidity on most of their zins matched with the fruit should pierce the heat. But if anyone brings reds, we'll just drink it with the non spicy food. But it's always fun to experiment with different pairings, I think chinese food is far more versatile than people think.

BTW Zhi Hu likes to hold himself out as a master of all schezuan food so if you have questions ask him =P

While I love spicy food, I'd suggest not getting anything for this dinner that's TOO spicy. We tend to do alot of shifting around with pouring wines (Flights? We don't need stinkin' flights!), so I'd think that tongue searing heat would create problems.

Can you let me know ASAP if it's +1 or +3? I'll wait to call them and change the res until I hear back from you danny.
If you guys are okay with splitting to two tables, we can increase it. They don't have a table large enough for anything past 14 (we're squeezing in with 15).
I think it might actually work better if we have two tables of 8-9, and what I'll do is order the same dishes for each table. We'll have the back section to ourselves so we can pass wine around with reckless abandon.
Everyone okay with this? If so I'll call tomorrow and change the reservation.
EVEN BETTER: we can have one table for the normal spice dishes and another with the wimpy =P
Bring stems. Bring cash. Do we need to cook and wash the dishes too?
I think that 2 tables would work well for a group this size. More elbow room while we're sitting and we can mingle otherwise with the back section to ourselves. Passing bottles between the tables shouldn't be an issue.

Damn I hope I can make this! Not too spicy??? Go eat Taiwanese food instead haha. Perhaps you shouldn't have chosen a Szechuan restaurant! That's like saying, "Lets go to Popeyes or KFC but not eat anything too greasy"
This sounds like a fun offline! You WS people are fun!

why don't you find out already if you're coming or not, you're holding up my reservation changes. Freaking guy... AIYAH!
aight ladies and germs, we're sticking with one table of 14. We can get a larger variety of dishes that way =). If we find the table too small we can split to 7/7.
Clayfu, it's going to be me +5, so I think we should do 2 tables. I'm sorry for the last minute change, I was waiting on confirmations from my friends. Let me know if you can't change the reservation and I'll tell them it's full.
Who do you have to probe around here to get a chardonnay?
