Sorry, but I am out. Working and on call both days.
---------- "Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Hmmm, we've never done a Chinese place for an offline before...wouldn't have thought of it. What kind of suggestions do you have? And I would think that it would be unfriendly to many types of wine. Do you do red wines at these dinners?

we do EVERYTHING. last time was all Burgs and whites. Usually it's whatever we bring. Chinese food runs the gamete where it doesn't match anything so you can just drink whatever you want!
If we do spicy food, we can just do syrahs/rhones/rieslings/whites/champagne as well! Most restaurants have a large variety of dishes, and unless we get all spicy dishes we dont' need to worry about the food overwhelming the wine.

Sweet white wines tend to go pretty well with spicy food. Hmmm, what could I bring that's sweet and white? I guess I'll think of something. But seriously, Chinese sounds great.
Who do you have to probe around here to get a chardonnay?

Okay, so unless there's a violent upheaval among the masses, let's go with a Chinese place. Suggestions?
Why you thought I'd make my suggestion without a place in mind? =P.
Very well done traditional chinese food. From what I read there is no corkage, I could always double check. I haven't met a chinese restaurant yet that is anti-wine.
Danny! You looking for a place to stay overnight and/or a golf course to duff up?
Ba Ren sounds good - say 6pm on Saturday (4/4)?
clayfu, since these folks are speaking Mandarin to customers coming in the door, I'd appreciate it if you could take point on this. I have real trouble handling heavy accents over the phone (or in person, or...).

If anyone wants to view any of the dishes, Kirk @ MMM YOSO has taken pictures of plenty of them! hereherehere and finally here!
Headcount
Charlie +1 Sd-wino +1(?) Java +1(?) Sean +2? Julie Danny.
Missing anyone?

I've been racking my brain for what red wines work well. I've had great success with Saxum (bold fruit with green and mint and long acidity), Bordeaux, Zins (not the spicy kinds, more in the vein of Carlisle), burgs, even ready to drink Rhones (CDP/Tele etc) I think most things without big tannins and oak. The spice/fried nature of the food really makes the oak extra harsh
I look forward to attending this, but have no idea what wine to bring. The Yelp reviews say that most of the menu items are very spicy, even talking about taste buds and entire tongues going numb from the heat. I guess this means white wine, dry, sweet, or sparkling.

Possibly! As soon as I can figure out the surrounding days, I will let you know. Thank you!
Tentatively, yes. Although I haven't played ANY golf lately

we'll definitely get some non-spicy dishes as well. Some of their best dishes involve no spice! I'll go make a reservation at the restaurant on Saturday.
Ok, I am getting in here late, but I will be there with a girlfriend that is coming in from AR, so make me a plus one. I will start thinking about what to bring, I have never had wine with Chinese food!
I will drink no wine til it's in my glass!
