I'm interested in the hotel as well. In addition I will make a phone call and see if I can pull off a small miracle at the place I got married at back in March.

I've never stayed at the Renaissance here, but I've been in there for various events and can vouch for the fact that it is a nice hotel in a good (not great) location. Better locations are right on or off Michigan ave on the North side of the river. This one is about 3 blocks off Michigan on the South bank of the river. It seems like $119 for that is probably a pretty good deal.

A quick poke around on Hotels.com finds the Wyndham for $110 per night during the same period. I don't know that hotel specifically, but location-wise it's as good as it gets in Chicago- corner of Michigan and Ontario. Prob a little more hassle for travel there though, the traffic on Michigan Ave is terrible.

Not looking good for next year either.

Quick update:

I am working on getting a contract signed for the rates of $109 a night for a regular room and $119 a night for a suite; got them down a little bit more. Smile I had to guarauntee at least 8 rooms which based on feedback in this thread I dont think will be a problem. I did look at the Wyndham and that rate of $112 a night had to be prepaid now and was non-refundable or changeable. I didnt think that would work for an event like this where I am sure that people will drop at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. The hotel is in downtown Chicago and within a quick cab ride to things like Shed Aquarium, The Fields Museum and Soldier Field. I will let you all know when the deal is done and what the group code is for when you book your rooms. If people aren't cool with this hotel and want me to keep looking please tell me now!!! I dont want to be on the hook for 8 rooms. Eek

I just completed airfare, arriving Wed night. I asked jburman82 to look into suite prices. We'll likely host an open house on Thursday night for a few hours if we can secure a suite. So I'm in on the Marriot.

Very cool. Thank you! I haven't booked a flight yet, but I'm committed. However, I may be coming solo, which shouldn't impact the room reservation. Not sure how many nights yet.

Coincidentally, I just got an email offer from Wyndham Chicago (on the Golden Mile Smile).

Minimum 2-night stay, second and I believe subsequent nights are half-off. If anyone's interested in staying there, the promo code is PKGBOGF so just enter it in the appropriate box when starting the reservation. Sometimes these promotions don't actually save money, but it's easy to compare it to their "best" internet rate and find out.

Open house on Thursday??? This is sounding more and more like a liver-busting, full-fledged vacation.

Hopefully we will be able to make it to some of these pre-parties. (Am using the plural, since I assume there will be more...)

I'm planning this live as a type, but I figured it was a good chance to open everything I've ever made and preview the Fall release. I'm pretty sure Otis would have a hard time getting out on Friday so Thursday seemed like a good day. Maybe 6-8 and I'll set up some catering with the hotel to have snacks?

We've also talked about a 1999 Cab Retrospective. I could work on setting up a dinner and tasting to start later, maybe 8PM?

Morton's is 300 feet from the hotel, Smith and Wolensky's is across he river about 500 feet, Catch 35 is in the same building I think, Fulton's is 4 blocks, Bin 36 3 blocks, and Joe's is about 6 blocks. I could start calling around and see who would A. Being open the latest since these things usually go 3-4 hours and B. has the best corkage deal.

S&W hosted a bunch of the CWM in a private room a few years back. VinoMe took care of the organizing. I think they were pretty reasonable for corkage.

I think the wife is now interested in attending and keeping me away from the hookers and blow Smile Looks like it will be the 2 of us. We'll probably book flights this week(end).

Just booked the flights. I am surprising my wife with this trip. In the past she has enjoyed meeting people from the WS forums and I thought a gathering of 75 people would be one should would not forget. I look forward to the updates on the hotel info.

It will be great to see you IW. Cool If I am remembering correctly we haven't offlined since the famous 2002 NYC offline at Willow, no?

BTW, we're booked into the Lincolnshire Marriott, near Otis' place. I would have preferred to be downtown with the rest of you but including parking ($49) it will be almost exactly twice what the Marriott will cost, thanks to a weekend deal. Plus my liver might have a fighting chance of surviving the weekend if I remain a safe distance away.... Wink
