I have to concur as well. It's not just the generosity of providing all that wine, it's the unequalled hospitality of opening up their home to a bunch of strangers (though I guess every year fewer of the participants are actually strangers any more), some of whom might drink just a wee bit too much and perhaps even cause a bit of a mess-- well, it is just a selfless act to put on a party of this magnitude. Serious kudos to the otisabduls!

Where the hell have I been? Almost missed this- yikes! I still have fond daydreams of the 1997 Siro Pacenti and all the great company. Otis, please put us on the waiting list. Primordealsoup (2)

A comment on hotels: In 2007, my wife and I stayed at the nearby Northbrook Renaissance and they were kind enough to provide a shuttle directly to Otis' house. I am sure they would still provide this service. As for the return trip, well, your on your own (and may you not go it alone).

Otis, I have heard that this is a "do not miss" event. Would you put me down for 2 on the waiting list, please?

jb- I will send you an email shortly. Some of the places I have been considering:
Wyndham Chicago
Ambassador East
The Tremont
Hotel Orrington
Inn of Chicago
All of these seem to have reasonable rates that weekend. Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated!

MLV and I, and Emilio and his wife stayed at the Ambassador East for the 2007 CDP - It was ok - Elevators were horrible - Nothing great, but ok - If we went back again, I would stay elsewhere I think

I have a gotten a great rate at the Marriott Renaissance of $119. AAA gave it 4 Diamonds. I am still looking but that is the best combo of quality and price I have found. I told them between 8-20 rooms. I havent locked it in yet so please post if you are interested. I'll let you guys know if I find anything better.

Here is the link to the hotel.

Great location, and that's an amazing rate, I'd move down from the Swisotel for that.

MJA-
I stayed at The Tremont April last year, for the Italian offline. The rooms are TINY and they only offer on bed per room (remind me; there's a funny story connected to that one), which takes up the entire room.
The plumbing sucked. Showers resulted in the tub being half full by the time you're finished.
Like JC's experience at the Ambassador East, the elevators were also horrible.

I ended up here using Hotwire. Good deal? Depends on one's perspective.
Personally, I would NEVER stay there again!

I strongly advise that you DO NOT STAY THERE!!! Eek

The Marriott Renaissance would a way better choice to go, certainly.
