On or about Saturday March 20th (depending on fair weather), I'll be planting @ 250 vines on the San Francisco Penninsula at Woodside / Portola Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

I'll provide training in planting and a short summary on clone and rootstock selection for those interested. Planting should take about 2-3 hours (we're figuring on 20 or so people) and will be followed by a BBQ and tasting of Santa Cruz Mountain Wines.

Bring gloves, and a shovel and wear something you can get covered with SCM clay and dirt.

For those of you who've followed this little drama over the past 2 years, this is not the hot tub vineyard. It is in fact the 'real' vineyard of @ 2 acres that I recently took on this winter. We'll be planting Cab, Cab Franc, Syrah, Viognier and a little Zinfandel.

email me at paul@hockeyguy.com if you are interested or would like more details.

Well the hot tub is a ways from the vineyard, and we never 'plan' a hot tub event, they just seem to happen.

Although pyang, there does seem to be an event each time we've hooked up Big Grin, Even if you do bail before it gets going, at least you've been there at some point Wink

Tlily,
A drive up north might be in the works, as you said, weather permitting. I suppose even I-5 is kind of pretty from inside a convertible!
Mr Bill and I may take you up on the invite!

cluricaunwines and Pinot Envy,

Hope you can make it. We'll probably do something Friday night now as well in San Jose that doesn't involve hard labor.

We're actually almost full up with the help I've been offered here, over at Vinocellar and assorted friends and the such. Maybe room for 3-4 more people.

Thanks everyone.

torn up hands are a sign of a true wine lover Wink

I'd like to thank VitisVinifera, and Vino Con Brio as our first official sponser. He's set us up with grow tubes for the event!

Since a number of people from here and on Vinoceller may be coming from outside the San Jose area, I'm thinking of setting up a Friday night dinner as well. If there's interest in that please let me know. I know for sure there's a 1983 Chateau Marguax in my cellar that would be perfect for the occasion.

Tlily,

I don't know if this has been discussed... but if you start selling in '06 from your '04 vintage you have to release a "Hot Tub Vineyard" single vineyard bottling.

I'll look for the first post in a few years of,

"Has anyone received their Hot Tub Vineyard Mailer yet?"

yhn, it's about 2 miles from the Rixford vineyard. If we do a Friday night get together I'm thinking about opening "inspiration" wines. A Marguax for Rixford, a Latour for Lefranc and a DRC for Masson. Thought you might dig on that Big Grin

LJ, Big Grin The 150-200 or so bottles we'll get every year from the "home" vineyard will of course be for long time friends, supporters and helpers.

We finished up all the post and trellis repair this weekend, and have pruned about 2/3 of the vineyard. It will be all ready to go by March.

tlily, great idea. Sounds like fun. Unfortunately, I'm in NOLA that week, otherwise I'd be in. Hope you do it again next year.
