Look for Daniel's notes here.

I have discovered that in a social setting like this one, with a ton of wine and a bunch of interesting people, that I am unwilling/unable to take serious notes. I'm sure as my palate gains experience, I'll get better, but I'm at my best when I can concentrate on one wine, truly focus on it and taste it over time. I admire Daniel, futronic and others who are able to taste and differentiate multiple wines in a short period of time.

Some favorites:

1997 Barbi - very rustic, traditional Brunello. One of the more approachable wines of the evening for me.

1997 Lisini Ugolaia - I liked this wine very much, and think it will continue to improve. Not ready to my taste.

1997 Castelgiocondo - We had 3 wines decanted in my room, and this exploded out of the decanter with aromas of dark fruit. It was also very open and approachable at the restaurant, and I'm glad I have a few in my cellar.

1997 Ciacci - Definitely a melange of flavors. This wine was impressive, but I believe it is years from coming together. The rest of mine will sleep for a while.

For me, the highlight of the evening was having a chance to catch up with the Philly Brunello crew. mwagner7700 and Terra, futronic, steve8, Daniel Fulton, it was great to see you again. Wonderful to meet your friend, Daniel, and to meet Joshua Pollak too.

I hope we can do this again next year! Cool

At long last, some photos from the 1997 Brunello Offline can be viewed here!

My fekakte camera is lousy in low light, so a few really good shots were too fuzzy to use. Mad I hope futronic can post some of his shots as well. Hey fut! Can you e-mail me all the sandwich shots?

As always, if you see you pic here and want it removed, just say so! If you want copies of any of these shots e-mailed to you, I'm glad to do so. E-mail me at purplehaze1956 at yahoo dot com!

Hunter, those sandwich pictures are borderline obscene! Smile The restaurant was dark, but I think was more my camera than anything else.
