I thought I'd start with a new post.

We're now on 100% rain or shine for vine planting on 3/20.

Email me at paul@hockeyguy.com with any questions.

We'll start at noon, and should be done by 3PM or so. Parking is limited on the site, so I've set up a little shuttle to drive people up the hill from Alpine Road. We'll start with some instructions at noon, and then we'll have about 20 people helping out to get the 250 vines planted. It should be very easy, Stef and I will have done all the prep work in advance. If you've planted a rose, it's very similiar.

We'll have snacks and drinks on site. Due to the logistics we're thinking we'll have the BBQ afterwards at our house starting as soon as we are done planting or 5PM ish. It's about 25 minutes south of the vineyard. I'll be opening wines from Clos LaChance, Ridge, Cooper Garrod, K. Kennedy, David Bruce, and a 1966 Uvas Cabernet Sauvignon. If you've been before you also know I start digging around in the cellar and an old Bordeaux, CDP or other such treasures are likely to come out too.

You're welcome to come to the planting, the BBQ or both. We have planty of stemware, and will supply all the food. You are also welcome to bring a bottle to share if you'd like.

For a Friday night pre-event, as I'm hoping Pinot Envy and Pinto Envy will be in town, I'm setting up a dinner at Arcadia in Downtown San Jose. Check the dinning section on Vinocellar for notes on Arcadia.

Seating will likely be limited to 15 people and we'll have our own private section. I'm working on the menu and costs right now but it looks like they will do a 5 course menu for us and I'm trying to get corkage included. Should be $75-$100 per person.

For the Friday night event I'll be opening "inspiration wines". Those wines that inspired the early growers of the Santa Cruz Mountains. If you need help figuring out what to bring shoot me a note. The list so far is::

1990 Bollinger Grande Annee
2000 Domaine Romanee Conti Grands Échézeaux
1983 Chateau Margaux

I'll probably arrainge for a 1989 Latour from the wine list at Arcadia

Please let me know which events you'd like to attend.

Paul

PS, yes pyang the hot tub will be on Wink

What I want to know: Is the web-site set up to sign up on the mailing list? Wink

Seriously - I will be nowhere near Cali in mid-late March (My wife and I will be anticipating our little girl anytime then) But I do wish you the best of luck.

DavidN I have 2 for you.

Pinot Envy. That so Rocks! Can't wait to see you. Arcadia is in the new Marriot and I've put family up there with good feedback. There's also a Fairmont and Hilton within a block, and all are about 7-8 minute drive from our place. Light rail also runs in front of all those hotels and is about 2 blocks from our house.

Gusbo, Stef misses you guys and wants to know when you're visiting again.

Grunhauser, You're in, can't wait to meet you, you've always been one of my favorite posters.

I'll have a list up later tonight or tomorrow.

Here's the head count for Friday night:

Tlily = 2 +2 off line friends.
DavidN = 2
Pinot Envy = 2
Grunhauser = 2
VitisVinifera = 1

Gfleener = 2 (maybe)

So we've got 2-4 seats left. I have the contract from Arcadia and will finalize the menu with them this weekend. Cost still looks to be $75 or so per person.

Saturday we're at about 20 for planting and 25 for the BBQ.

Davidn had a great write up.

It's Michael Mina's take on American comfort food. First class service and wonderful twists. The wine list is good with German Reisling, Burgundy, Rhone ( Big Grin) and light on Cabernets. If you have any of Brian Loring's Pinot's or can steal one from TBird, it would be a great match.

I've arrainged it so we can order from the full menu. Can't wait!

Vines arrived last night. Reservations are confirmed. We're good to go. Should be a fantastic day in the vineyard too 70 degrees, mostly sunny. Vines in the "home" or "hot tub" vineyard are in full growth for Saturday night.

grunhauser it was a great pleasure to meet you and Mrs Grunhauser, one of our highlights of the weekend. The Chalon was memorable Wink I liked how everyone pushed it back on the table to see if it would change as the night went on.

Planting was completed Saturday, right on schedule and we had a good time Saturday night going through 20+ bottles of Santa Cruz Mountains wines.

Thanks also to davidn and gfleener, great company and great wines we shared.

pyang add one name to the door Wink
