Crap! Basecadet's coming.Razz Big Grin I think I owe him money for Two Hands Bella's. Big Grin

Good stuff Basecadet... it will be a fun drive up!

Anyways, I was contemplating bringing a 1998 Caves de Papes Les Closiers CdP. I could bring a 1991 Quinta de Vesuvio VP instead or as well.

Alternatively, I could bring a 2000 Camensac Bordeaux. The CdP is likely going to be drinking the best though. Any thoughts?

I'm back....

If someone brings a sauternes or other dessert wine then one port should suffice. And I'm always ready to learn more about wines I rarely taste, like bordeaux....

Is Impulse one or two at the table?

FYI, the main Vintages store here has lots of excellent French stuff, some of it for even less than $500. So perhaps you out-of-towners could search online and pick up your bottles here?

Bman,

Dumb question..... WHAT TIME DOES THE OFFLINE START!!!!!!!! Razz Big Grin I don't think it was posted.

Also, has the final menu been decided? I ask as I am on a stict diet but will be fine as long as I can have steak, veggies and salad. The no booze part of the diet might be a bit of a problem. Roll Eyes Big Grin

I will bring a 500ml Alain Brumont Doux Frimaire Décembre pacherenc-du-vic-bilh 1996 as a desert wine, Maybe also a Sauternes, I still have to decide what wines to bring for dinner.

Vinaigre,

I'm sure the Brumont is a great wine, but I really don't think a 500mL bottle would make it all the way around a group of 18 or whatever it is now.

bman,

Can you please post an update that has all the information? Venue name, address, start time, menu, attendees, and wine list as it stands now?

I think that would take a lot of confusion out of the thread.

Thanks.

Bman, I will be by myself.
As for wine, I need a better grasp of the menu to decide what to bring. Debating on something from Alsace, or even a Chablis if I go with white, other wise, for red, maybe northern rhone or burgundy (sorry no DRC Razz).

I might even bring a ringer (blind), after I see what everyone else is bringing.

Huh? Whassat? A dessert Madiran? Interesting.

Fut, I don't think a 750 can make it around to 19 people.

I think I mentioned above that I`m waiting for Beckta to announce their new menu. They change it every couple of months or so. I was told that I`d probably get it some time this week. I`ll post here as soon as I do. I`m pretty sure that we`ll have no trouble doing a red meat/chicken/fish thing if we wish.

All details re logistics are available at www.beckta.com. Phone and address are: 226 Nepean Street, Ottawa. (613) 238-7063

Wines and attendees to date are as stated in my post of yesterday, above.

I`m pretty sure that start time is 6:30 but I`ll confirm that with Beckta when I get the new menu.

Bman,

I will be alone, if I can come at all. So far, it looks positive...

Guys, I don't know if I can play in the same league as the 1993 Vosne-Romanée!

So far, I am hesitating between a two wines. Let me know which one is preferred :

-1999 Smith Haut-Lafitte
-2001 Pierre Usseglio Cuvee mon Aieul (CDP)

By the way, if anyone is interested in dessert wines, the SAQ currently has the 1959 Moulin Touchais for $185 (which is a bit over my budget for an off-line). Tried it once, and I can tell you it is one of the best wines I have ever tried. Still a little baby despite being almost 50 years old...

Impulse, the bordeaux would interst me more, if you think it is closer or at maturity, but as always I'm happy to bend to the democratic will if others disagree.

Ouch ... that's going to be tight for the TWC contingent. Hopefully we'll be able to make it on time, or better yet, hopefully the resto's reservation is for 7pm.

I'll ask Beckta if we can do it for 7pm.

Your decisions concerning which wines to bring might be affected by the fact that they can be legally opened only by the restaurant. So we can therefore either drink the wines you bring, or could you bring something that requires little air-time? Thoughts?

Remember, notwithstanding the recent antics of certain Liberals, Ottawa is a rule-following town.....

I'll edit my post at the top of this page to reflect the latest info re numbers and wines.

Bman, if they are going by the rules, then you can not bring Port.

Fortified wines are not allowed in the BYO.

Eek Eek Eek Eek Eek

I'll ask if this is OK, notwithstanding any misguided and nonsensical rules.... Roll Eyes

If not, does this mean that we can never have dessert wines at an offline in Ontario?! Frown

They gotta be kidding? Confused It's not like we're arriving three sheets to the wind with a bunch of half drunk bottles of Boones Farm.

You can bring dessert wine no problem. Sauterne, Tokaji, icewine, Auslese, BA, TBA, Recioto.
But no fortified wines.

It's not like were all bringing 1.5l bottles of mouton cadet. The wines will be probably be worth as much as the entire meal, if not more.
