Slan,

I tried the 1993 Beringer a few months back and it was great. Perfect to drink now.

Also, unfortunately it looks like Leanne won't be joining us unless the babysitting fairy comes through with a babysitter. Ours can't make it and all of the grandparents are out of town. We are still trying but it doesn't look good. I will be there regardless.

See y'all tonight!

I'm really sorry I had to bail on everyone at the last minute. Some things came up that were entirely unavoidable. I called futronic and offered to send my wines anyway, but he was already up in the north end of town on his way to the restaurant, so I had no way of getting them to you.

I trust you enjoyed the evening, and I will try to make the next event (although, as I mentioned in the other thread, Mrs. Slan and I will be in Vegas with a group of friends during the weekend of October 21 when the HDWs are in town for the next offline).

WOW!!! I had forgotten how much fun these offlines can be!

What a pleasure it was to join in on this most recent offline. It was great seeing aav28, the DoktaPs, the bairds, and the newly married carriedca's. It was also great to finally meet redwine, basecadet, and duojet. It was nothing short of a stroke of luck that during dinner, I got to sit next to futronic. It was a real treat seeing, watching, talking to, and learning from The Man.

As far as the evening's wines are concerned, well...perhaps it's because I haven't done this in awhile, or maybe because they were coming just too fast and furious, but...I CAN'T REMEMBER MUCH! Notables were the Feudi di San Gregorio Aglianico (huge difference between this New World style vs. the Old World style of the Bocca di Lupo), the Mas La Plana, and I wouldn't have brought it if I didn't LOVE the Alkoomi Blackbutt.

As usual, Todd and the staff at Splat were in top notch form. Thanks to them for taking good care of us drunkards.

Can't wait for the next one...

As mentioned by WGIT, it was an outstanding offline. There were the usual corked bottles (and guests), but baird and carriedca did not perform their death defying glass tricks.
It was wonderful seeing WGIT and duojet again, as well as the regular usual suspects. Futronic was once again in rare form with the (married) woman, and I think even got a few numbers (for babysitting).
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, there were wines. I enjoyed the '97 Antinori CCR, the Feudi, as well as the Blackbutt. No one particular standout though, as far as I was concerned.

Good to see everybody again, especially the long lost wino WGIT. All wines are equally good as usual, not one particularly stand out by far. Special thanks to Todd at Chez Splat for hosting us, and his venison did score a 100pts on my book, it is just simple fabulous. Big Grin

It was a very good night... Food and company were excellent.

At the risk of being branded a heretic, we had too much wine on Friday (at least too many reds). The pace was too fast and there wasn't enough time to enjoy a particular wine. That's why I don't think any wine really stood out.

The venison was great, the company was great (debating ph levels in D'Arenberg wines with basecadet was pretty funny Roll Eyes Big Grin) and the wines were suprisingly good. The Brunello and the Torres were very nice and I brought 2 wines that nobody seemed to like AGAIN! I guess it is 2002 Catena Malbec for the next 24 offlines from me as it is time to play it safe. Razz

Good to see the Carriedcas again so soon. Likely just soon enough for Carriedca to pass on the cold that I passed on to him in Ottawa the week before last.

See y'all in October.....
