Thursday night Stef and I would like to host a tasting / reception at the Marriot for anyone in town already. I'd like to get a rough headcount so I can set up snacks with the hotel catering group. I'm thinking it would run 5PM -7PM and I'm planning on bringing samples of everything I've made so far including some pre-release wines.
Otisabdul, Newsguy and I had talked about a 1999 SCM Cab retrospective as well, and I'm working on setting that up right now. Here's what I have tenative:
Time: 8PM- Close Location: Joe's (Walking distance from the Marriot) Theme - 1999 California Cabernet's @ Cost = $75 / person + 1 bottle of 1999 Cab or Champagne. I think I have Joe's on a no additional corkage if we hit $1500 for food.
I'm working with Joe's on a private room for 16-20 right now.
I need to get a feel for interest on that as well. I'll be bringing the following for the tasting:
1999 Ridge Monte Bello 1999 Mount Eden Old Vine Reserve 1999 Piccheti 1999 Copper Garrod George's Vineyard

I just looked on cellar tracker and my only 99 cab is Insignia. I had no idea I was that low. I'll bring that and find something else for the Mrs to chip in. I do have a 97 Insignia left but that wouldnt fit with the theme.
Should be in town and am definitely interested, but I likely won't know for sure until much closer to the event due to Jen and my travel schedules (early August or so).

I'm still working on the restaurant, should have something in place this week. I'm going to get us set up somewhere that can handle 20 people in a private or semi private area and try and keep total price at or about $75 per person.
Put me in as a maybe, with about a 50/50 chance. I've got travel planned for about 50% of the summer, but the time slot is still open. I'd hate to miss the event.
What "Joe's" restaurant are you looking into? If it is the place I'm thinking of, my wife told me that she knows someone who works there. Not sure if he could do anything but she would ask.

Rush and Grand. They have a no corkage policy but are willing to wave it for a winery. Morton's response was "you can bring one special bottle", my response was 'bite me'.
I'm open to suggestions, anything in a 10-12 block radius of Whacker and Michigan would work I'm sure and I know we're all not anxious to pay $500 in corkage to anyone.

What a perfect way to start the weekend's festivities. Amy and I are available if there's room.
Tentatively planning on bringing: Mondavi Reserve Pine Ridge Stags Leap District

If I could be allowed to bring "dessert," I can come. I don't have any '99 California Cab. Pleanty of Sauternes and other stickies to share. I have a '99 Tokaji if that counts.

Berno, my wife and I are in for a cubs game on friday. There are a whole bunch of people who want to go. We can get a group together thursday night and meet up friday before the game.
I was thinking of getting my wife up to Notre Dame but that might have to be another trip. Not enough time since this is her first trip to Chicago. She lived in France for a year and traveled around Africa for 4 months but hasnt ever been to Chicago?????
Put me down for two if there is still room. Unfortunately, my 1999 cabernets are very limited. I think all I have is Lewelling and Kelham (and not positive about the Kelham).

Really looking forward to trying more of your wines Paul, I'd love to try some back vintages as well, I've only been on your list for 1 year now and would love to see how they age....hard to keep my hands off them though.
I can bring a 99 LLC if anyone is interested in comparing a BDX to Cali. Otherwise I've got a 99 Altamura. Opened one two weeks ago and it was in the zone, gobs of fruit left.
