There's a place in town that has all of last year's top 10's. They are considering doing a wine tasting count down, from #10 to #1, one per week, along with other related wines. Like #10 being the '99 Leoville Las Cases, maybe they'd do other Bordeaux or St.-Julian's, for comparison. Anyone have any comments on this idea? Cost needs to be reasonable.

The Chicago Wine Mafia held a tasting of all of these wines last June. I would recommend it.

Here is the link for the WS Top 10 Shootout with TN's of course.

It's a bar in the Warehouse District called 219West and they want to have wine tastings on Wednesdays. Looking at their cellar, they have all of WS Top 10 from last year (only 2 of some). They are just trying to come up with ideas for the wine tastings and thought something fun could be done with this. According to the notes from the Chicago tasting tho, it looks like this would be a better thing to do in a couple of years. Decanting for 4-5+ hours has always scared me. I also don't think they'd pour them all at once because the cost would have to be too high. Austin is not a big wine city. No wine bar has been able to stay in business. They offerered 82 Cos d'Estournel by the glass last night @ $10 per oz. and no one bit. Which was fortunate, I guess, because the wine was corked. They also had the 99 Silver Oak AV BTB for $115 and BT oz for $5. Sold lots of it -- this is Texas. Also in their cellar are a number of past WSWOTY -- 89 Beaucastel, 96 Cinq Cepages. These are raring to go. I had the Beaucastel last Valentines and it was stunning. Any ideas or suggestions any of you have for wine tastings would be appreciated.

send me an email to roborlauryl"AT"sbcglobal.net

True Austin is NOT a wine city at all, but that does not mean we have to suffer quietly.

I am organizing a tasting group as we speak which I also hope will keep us networked and apprised of the few nice wine events that do occur here.

There is a great Bordeaux wine dinner tonight at Mirabelle I will sadly have to skip.

And again curse this forum for having no pm feature. Mad
