Are you bringing that Wes? I was thinking maybe a Van Der Heyden late harvest Zinfandel. I may bring it anyway, depending on how Ali reacts.
Edit: scratch that. I've only got one 375 left, which isn't going to go far between 12 people.

In keeping with Paul's TWF theme I'll bring a Varner 2003 Home Block Chardonnay too.

Nothing wrong with bringing extras and seeing how things unfold. So the Tokaj might be good to have in reserve, too.

For dinner, I'm bringing an 85 Mount Eden Cab.

If you could help out with glassware it'd be much appreciated. I'm going to grab some more tonight, but I've lost 4 cab glasses in the last week. Eek

I have plenty for chapmagne to start, but as I said before the rest of my collection is all over the place due to breakage. Not to mention it looks like we'll have several bottle paired with the entree so side by side tasting will be nice.

I have two decanters as well.

Looks like we need some whites so I just threw a bottle of 2002 Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres into the fridge. Some may accuse me of infanticide on this one but I have a hard time keeping Montrachet white burgundies in stock. Frown

Looking forward to meeting everyone this evening!

It's a bit late, but we have a Van Der Heyden late harvest Cabernet Sauvignon that is 375. We'll bring that in case there is an interest in drinking it though like Dave Tong says, it won't go far between 12 people.

What year do you have? I can probably match it.
Also, what time are you expecting us to arrive? Did you say 6PM?

It's a 2000.

I think it is 6:00 tonight. At least that is when we will be there!

Things I learned last night:

Peer Gynt knows a lot about scotch

jryoung & wife know how to throw together a great meal

Just when you think the wine selections are winding down, yhn brings the 83 Malle Sauternes out of hiding

You never know what to expect meeting people in person.....despite dave tong's name and being a software engineer he is fact english not chinese

Much thanks to the hosts, Kate and I really enjoyed meeting everyone.

Attached is a link to the Paso Robles Rhone festival several people were interested in:

Thanks all for attending and bringing such a great array of wines, my wife and I really enjoyed having everyone over.

We're already talking about the next one, we were thinking theme like Spanish paella and Spanish wines or Italian pasta and Italian wines.

Dave and Christie, in the mass clean up I discovered your wine glass and decanter. We'll have to figure out how to get them back to each of you.

Thanks a lot for hosting, JR. The gf and I had a great time eating, drinking and being merry with all the attendees. It was a pleasure meeting you all. I hope the lamb was not a family secret, because I would like a copy of the recipe if possible. Could you email it to me?

No secret at all for the lamb, I acutally picked it up on the fly as I had ordered lamb tenderloin. It was noon when they discovered the order hadn't come in. Eek

So I opted for the rib racks instead. All I did was french them, and rub on a pre-mixed salt of coarse sea salt, dried lemon peels, herbs du provonce, pepper (it's at whole foods, but I can't remember the brand name at the moment. They do also make a tuscan salt that is good too, the one I used was the meditteranean).

The coarse sea salt can be a bit much depending on your taste, sometimes a finer salt works better so you don't get some salt bombs.

The I baked it upright (stacked two racks together, bones up) and baked at 325 until the center was 140.
