If we were travelling anywhere near there (or travelling at all, for that matter!) we would love to attend, as it was great to meet the Gusbos in London this past summer. But sadly, we are homebound.... Please say hello to them for me. And have some good port handy!

bman,
I love port, but Gusbo prefers his Alsatian SGNs and German TBAs!

I'll be sure to tell Gusbo you said hi. We are bound to drink... a LOT that weekend!

Gusbo,
Some possible themes:

  • 1997 California Cabs
  • 2001 California Cabs
  • Pride vertical
  • 1995 Bordeaux (2nd-5th crus)
  • 1996 Bordeaux (2nd-5th crus)

Or maybe you want to go eclectic and taste from several regions the same night?

    Let me know.

    bman-
    Saludos desde Mexico....... Smile

    Señor Pelochain,

Sorry for the delay, I have not been very active here for a while. The '96 Brdx. sounds good to me. Any other is also fine with me, let me know what kind of schedule we have.....should be fun!

    See you next week!

    Salud!

    Señor Gusbo,
For sure we'll have a tasting of 1996 Bordeaux. I want to verify your long standing position that 1996s are more approachable than their 1995 counterparts.

There WILL be other tastings too!

Are your "Regio" friends very much into Spanish wines? Remember the group at Alaia?

Please send me the your list of possible 96's, that way we won't duplicate.

    Salud!

This is what I was thinking so far (I was thinking of providing all the wines myself so you wouldn't have to carry anything except the rather small sugary stuff you like so much):

    Aperitif
1990 Veuve Clicqot Ponsardin La Grande Dame Champagne (Champagne)

    Starter
2002 Beringer Sbragia Limited Release Chardonnay (Napa)

    Flight 1: 1997 Tuscans
    1997 Antinori Tignanello (Tuscany)
1997 Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino (Tuscany)
    1997 Antinori Solaia (Tuscany)

    Flight 2: 1996 Pauillacs
    1996 Chateau Lynch Bages (Pauillac)
1996 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron (Pauillac)
1996 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (Pauillac)

    Flight 3: 1997 California Cabernets
1997 Ridge Montebello Cabernet Sauvignon (Santa Cruz)
    1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia (Napa)
    1997 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)

    Dessert1990 Chateau Suduiraut (Sauternes)

But if you insist on having a broader 1996 horizontal, I won't mind either.

Most of these guys are in the wine trade (retailers) and yes, they like Spanish wines. They seem to not like New World wines that much. One of 'em is an SuperTuscan fanatic.

If u want to chnage the program, I don't mind at all. We could just drink one of the flights we take out of this tasting the following day.

"If u want to chnage the program...." Wink

Why would I do a thing like that?........Now, having said that, why don't we make it an all '96 Brdx night? I'll e-mail you a list, pick 6, that way we can stay with 3x3 flights.

OK, I'll bring the "sugary stuff", you don't have to twist my arm so hard Roll Eyes.......these being "small" (375's and 500's) we'll have one/each Alsace Pinot Gris, Loire, German TBA, Tokjai
Aszu Ess. and a Sauternes. I'll post later.....

    Looking good!!

    Salud!

    Gusbo,
OK. You've convinced me to go 100% Bordeaux on this one. I sent you an e-mail with my picks.

I already have the second tasting lined up for Friday night with a bunch of newbies that are dying for you to preach 'em the truth 'bout the vine preacher!
