Folks-

I've been out of the loop for a while but am interested in jumping back into the offline fray this year. I was hoping that if I posted my tentative travel dates, fellow forumites would be willing to alert me to anything that has been in the works for that particular neighborhood...

So, gracious forumites, this is where I'll be showing up in the next 6 months:

January: London 2 weeks. Blown opportunity- very sad.

April: Lincoln, Nebraska- any takers?

May 11-16th: NYC. Anything happening? I've never met the illustrious Board-O- perhaps this can be rectified?

May24-June 19th: Costa Rica. Any tico wine lovers (or folks on an ecotour?). Will pay hard-earned colones for vino.

July 10-21: car camping trip to East Coast, wedding in Syracuse on the 17th. This is a prime opportunity to bump into some of you- any major events already planned? Anyone want to do a wine tour of the Finger Lakes?

Thanks for reading, and let me know if I can crash any of your shindigs. Ask the Chicago Mafia- I don't bite...

much

cheers,

thebugguy

tbg, May is a distinct possibility. A group of us get together once a month or so, if possible. Remind us again in late March or early April.

Just one more sip.

_______________

Heck yes- give me the details of your April travels-

Strangely coincidental- a friend's dad is with the Entymology (sp. ?) Department at UNL-

Keep me updated-

TBG,

No visits to Chicago to see the inlaws? Haven't heard from you for a long time. What's up? Have you finished that doctorate? Once you get over the hump of creating a phylogenetic hypothesis for ripiphorids; putting them in a evolutionary context and figuring out host-parasite coevolution, host switching on speciation and parasite phenology is a breeze.

Board-O: Thanks for the potential invite. I'll be attending a conference at the American Museum of Natural History during the days and quite likely crashing at a friend's in the upper east side at night. It would certainly be a pleasure to meet you and share a bottle or so...

Cluricaunwines: I believe I'll be in Lincoln sometime in mid-April- I'll have to double-check the dates. Coincidentally, I'm going there to attend the annual meeting of the Central States Entomological Society... What's the last name of this entomologist? I may (or may not) know them!

Vino Me: Hello and howdy! Unfortunately, no plans as of yet to visit Chicagoland this year. The in-laws are coming on down here at the end of May to witness my "hooding ceremony", so if I can't get to the wine, perhaps I can have the wine come to me... And yes, I am now thebugguy, Ph.D., for what it's worth. The results of my cladistic analysis are still preliminary, though, due to the fact that I left out all the characters related to the genitalia. I simply ran out of time to finish lopping off and drawing the whackers, so to speak. I'm working on that now...

Bug-

Keep me informed- we have plenty of wine to keep you entertained.

The name of the Lincoln bug guy is David Keith.

Cluricaunwines:

The meeting is the 16th and 17th of April. The exact schedule hasn't been posted yet, so I don't know if I'll be arriving on the 15, leaving on the 18th, etc. etc. My cellar is generally plretty lean, but one way or another I can bring something interesting to try. Can you bring bottles in to restaurants in NE? What's the corkage?

David Keith doesn't ring a bell, but it's a small community- I'm sure I know people who work with him every day...

jcubed: you ever try to collect insects in the lowland tropics? The skeeters will exsanguinate you if you leave skin bare and you'll pass out from heat exhaustion if you don't! I don't use it often, but I hate to think what I've already done to my chromosomes. I know for a fact the stuff will melt your rubber boots...

R2: Thanks for the warm invite- one of these days we'll be back up there, I'm sure...

TBG,

Last month I was on the west coast of New Zealand's south island. The sand flies there are ferocious. A little smaller than mosquitos, but they bite harder, and the itchiness does not show up for a couple days, and when it does it lasts for several days. Deet had no effect on them.

BUG-

Absolutely- we can bring them- corkage will be very small- if any at all. Just let me know what date is best and I can set it up on this end.

hey bugguy,

Good to see you around! We were wondering where you had gone - I thought one of your "genetically enhanced" super-bugs got a hold of you, and dragged you in her lair to be slowly digested over a thousand years. Big Grin
