We're past the midway point and no thread! Considering this, I suggest an offline in the next couple weeks- we can do it at the restaurant I'm consulting for (Sotto Sopra in Baltimore). There will of course be no corkage and the menu can include anything you guys want to see (the chef is a good friend of mine).

I recommend we consider: Fois Gras, Braised Veal Cheeks, and perhaps Kobe Ribeyes...plus a few family portions of pasta. Smile

I suggest an Italian theme as the food is Italian!

Date: SATURDAY, November 1, 2008
Time: 7:00 PM

To sweeten up the deal, I declare:

1985 Fattoria di Sant'Angelo (Lisini) Brunello di Montalcino
1996 E. Fuligni (Cottimelli) Brunello di Montalcino

Plus a few hidden gems I found in the cellar at the restaurant Smile

We can move the date/time to accommodate more people.

How could we even consider not considering this great offer! I'm in for two; will rustle through the brunello pile for something worthy.

Oh, how's the oso buca?

Ugh, not a good night for me, as the next morning brings a VERY early call for a big presentation at work.

Would have loved to join, the theme and potential hidden gems in the cellar are VERY exciting.

Any change on moving to Saturday?

If it stays Sunday, going all the way to B-more is rough. I might tough it out for the company and wine if necessary, but if it can be moved to Saturday, I am likely in for 2.

Where it stands we have 6 in, 2 more likely, and 2 more maybe. I think we should cap this at 12 for pour volume sake. I'll update this as people chime in!

Head Count:
Mike + Kim:
1985 Fattoria di Sant'Angelo (Lisini) Brunello di Montalcino
1996 E. Fuligni (Cottimelli) Brunello di Montalcino
plus a few surprises Smile

Jace + 1:
TBD
TBD

Klymkev + 1:
TBD
TBD

Probable:
Lentini + 1

Hopefully:
HabuWorldTour+1

EDIT: Start time: We may have to start at 7 PM! If that is OK with you all!

if it's saturday, i almost surely can't make it. that friday and saturday are two rare nights that i already have plans made for. if for some reason it gets shifted back to sunday, i'm in. if not, i'll have to catch you all next month. i'm assuming there'll be another offline in november, considering this one counts for october to keep the streak intact. newsguy! I already convinced the restaurant to give me our best table on a busy night, so looks like Saturday is a go. This is DEFINITELY the October event...so I look forward to seeing you at the REAL November offline Smile

Hope things are well!

I just met with the chef, our menu:

Antipasti:
Bresoala, Proscuitto, Porchetta, Marinated veggies, roasted mushrooms, cheeses, fresh figs, other misc. treats.
Pairing: Champagne (can anyone help out here?)

1st course: Seared Fois Gras Brioche with lingonberry compote
Pairing: I got something for ya Smile

2nd course: Seafood Course: Prosciutto Wrapped Prawn
Pairing: Either someone can bring a crisp white for this, or I have something interesting I found in the cellar that will do this dish well!

3rd course: Pasta Trio (Veal Agnolotti, Duck Tortelli, Black Pepper Gnocchi with shaved black truffle)
Pairing: Brunello seems OK for this!

4th course: Braised veal cheek served on gorgonzola polenta (we can change this if you'd like to ossobucco, kobe ribeye, or braised cinghiale)
Pairing: Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello?

5th course: Pinenut Praline Torte with house-made anise ice-cream.

Misc: a 70's something Taurasi will find it's way to the table as well Smile

I'll cover the champagne with a 95' Heidsick BdB Millenaires.

As for the other bottle, I was thinking 96' Borgogno Barolo Classico Riserva or an 88' Produttori barbaresco del barbaresco, depending upon others' declarations.

Sounding awesome.

What does it look like the per head cost will be, Sarbuze?

Declaring: 1997 Tenimenti Angelini Val di Suga Vigna Spuntali Brunello di Montalcino.

After I see more declarations and figure out who is coming with me, I'll do more declaring.

Klymkev: thanks for stepping up with a nice Champagne...either wine sounds perfect!

CS: Sorry to hear you and the Mrs. can't make it this time!

Lentini: Great declaration! As for cost I worked it out to be $65 / person (plus tax/gratuity, no corkage and a few surprises to come out Smile).

Also, if anyone wants to see changes in the menu let me know- it's very flexible!

I'm going to bring the 88' Barbaresco and the 97 Barolo, just in case the 88' doesn't show well or is, well, we won't say that "c" word.

In addition to the champagne, of course.
