Otis,

Even worse.... I actually saw the Kings and Doug & The Slugs in concert back in the day. Roll Eyes

Needless to say, neither made it into my Top Ten. Big Grin

There is much great Canadian music. Let me name a few great bands/songs:

Bob & Doug McKenzie singing "Take Off (to the great white North)." featuring Geddy Lee. Bob & Doug also did "the 12 days of christmas"

Loverboy: "Turn me loose".

I believe that King Missile and their hit "Detachable *****" also hail from the great white North.

Don't forget Alanis, Avril Lavigne, and of course my favorite Celine Dion.

Tom Cochrane and Red Rider with many hits.

Of course (and this is serious) probably the best songstress to hail from Canada is Joni Mitchell. I have a few of her albums, and barring Ella Fitzgerald I would argue that a better female vocalist has not lived in our times.

Gordon Lightfoot: "If you could read my mind" and "the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

BNL -many different songs (my fave is "Brian Wilson")

Otis- If you want I can bring an assorted Canadian hits CD. I have many tunes on my Ipod.

They weren't terrible, but only had one really good song. Sadly, Doug Bennett passed away last fall in Calgary.

Too Bad.

While we're on the subject of Canadian music...I'm sure you could find a few tunes from (that have not been mentioned yet):
Bachman Turner Overdrive
The Guess Who
Rush
Steppenwolf
Neil Young
The Tragically Hip
The Band
Blue Rodeo
54/40
Brian Adams

They don't make 8-Tracks any more????? Eek

Otis - Can you please add me and the Mr. to the wait list if you are already full? We would love to come up and hang out with this group and help diminish your cellar. Of course we will help restock before we diminish. Smile

Winetex: It would be a genuine pleasure to finally raise a glass with you. Hope you can make it! Cool

I'll start the standby list with the next new name that posts on this thread.

grossie (or any other crazy canuck): Feel free to burn a "Stand on Guard For Thee" CD featuring the best music from your Home and Native Land. I promise to slip it into the 6-disc shuffler for at least an hour (or until a hockey fight breaks out). I was golfing with Vino Me yesterday and he said not to forget Anne Murray. Razz

Cheers,

Otis

My Canadian CD would be largely The Guess Who and BTO, with some of most of the above as well.

Randy Bachman was perhaps the best songwriter of his era, on either side of the border, and no bad guitarman either, while Burton Cummings could sing and play piano like few others.

Hey Otis - ever heard of the Masked Marauders?

Anne Murray is Canada. Her Gospel version of "Sympathy for the Devil" is a classic.

Oh yeah, and Otis, do not even think of playing "Out of Time" until at least 3am.

It may be a little early but...what about the Thursday night?

There will be quite a few people arriving by/on Thursday so they can attend the Cubs game Friday.
There are a few/bunch of us who will be staying at the Hawthorne Terrace Hotel, which is close to Wrigley Field and grossie's, and not too far from Otis' (as opposed to downtown).

Perhaps dinner plans could be made?
An evening booze cruise on the river?
Sit around the Hotel and get drunk, then, as a mob, find and egg Vino Me's house?
Any other ideas?...

I was planning to go to Wrigley early on Thursday night so that I would be one of the first in line when the gates open Friday. I'm hoping to rush in and get a really good seat right on the field.

I've heard that the half-time shows are spectacular, and I don't want to miss any of it.

Seaquam,
What a Boob!...there are 3 periods in a baseball game!
BTW, I would also like to sit close to the pitch.

You CAN'T sit near the pitch. You might interfere with the game if they let you do that.

You'd be better off trying to sit behind the catch. That way you might be able to get one of those fowl balls like that guy did on television, and then you get your picture in the papers and on the news and everybody in Chicago wants to be your friend.

And you're calling ME a boob?? Big Grin Roll Eyes

Hopefully the Cubs get lots of touchdowns and goals and win the match. Big Grin Razz

Otis...or anyone that might know...which is closer to your home, Renaissance Hotel or the Radisson in Northbrook?

Hopefully Otis can confirm this, but I believe the Radisson is the closer of the two. But you are only talking a couple of miles either way. I've never stayed at either of these hotels, so I can't recommend one or the other.

eyes: TLV is correct. The Radisson is slightly closer, but both are within a couple miles of my house. Really glad you can make it. Cool

Cheers

TLV and Otis...thanks.

Glad I can make it too Otis. Works out well...the money I'll receive from you for the Arrowood and Kennedy will cover my hotel bill and breakfast too.

By the way, I seem to remember that normally people bring some sort of appetizer to this as price of admission. Since that will be a problem for us out-of-towners, I hope we can get by with a bottle or two of wine.

Yes, indeed, it would be good to know ahead of time.
Let's see...airline nuts, restaurant crackers, and hotel mints...yup, I'll have my contribution covered! Wink Razz

Seriously...I think its' fitting for out-of-towners to chip in some $$$ if they can't bring a dish/appy.
